Snakes on a Plane...1/48 Curtiss P-40K 78th FS USAAF

Recommended Posts

After doing only Luftwaffe stuff since the year started, my dad finally turns to different WW2 subjects.

Started a Hasegawa kit and doing the attractive snake scheme of the 78th FS.

Excellent choice I do believe i will take a seat

A rare scheme, the Hasegawa kit was a limited edition and AFAIK the only aftermarket decals were produced by Superscale and are hard to find nowadays.

Best not tell you that I've got an E and an F as well then, and a B and an N and another E, I quite like the P-40 :) .

first upper camo tone done

Hasegawa calls for Gunze H27 Tan, didn´t have that one so my dad used the selfmixed leftovers from his Iranian Asian Minor schemes last year. It is a mix of Tamiya XF-55 Deck Tan and XF-60 Dark Yellow, AFAIR.

For the chipped paint in the wing root areas he used AK Worn Effects fluid.

Looks quite Beautiful! I'm currently working on converting an Otaki P40 to an N model using an old medallion models N conversion kit. I also have an F conversion kit. Hopefully mine turns out as pretty as yours!!

Looking really good, looks like the same tool as my recently finished p40e, in hindsight I wish I had attached the tail halves to the fuselage first then joined the complete two halves together because the joint just never seemed to completely disappear but it's a really nice tool
