I`ll be using Flevo decals; I`ll be using Flevo Decals; And here are some real Dutch Navy Mitchell`s; 7fac3a673b5174486e80273712dffa56953ec44b62665cb9fd42a65ccc70b84d by Tony OToole, on Flickr 38c490460086cc1251167438823b9f79cb408a7bb6884d138759e52f766de40a (1) by Tony OToole, on Flickr c1989188a4572b6f2f0b0a1d278740e08666186a7e1c54f750a8b3a60c0373cc by Tony OToole, on Flickr 6d43a910a49224e493dbb37235ec81c4d15941766516f41cb057d4337f15ce58 (1) by Tony OToole, on Flickr And the survivor, which was on display for years in the woods at the War and Resistance Museum, with old style orange triangle markings added; 1065021-large by Tony OToole, on Flickr The above aircraft is now indoors and restored wearing wartime 320 Sqn colours and markings. Killingholme
That's a rather attractive scheme on an already quite purposeful design. Look forward to seeing it coming together (when you've found the decals..!) Will
tonyot
Hiya Folks, Well I couldn`t find the sheet that I had bought,...... but I do have a very old Dutch Decals sheet which includes a Dutch Navy Mitchell,...... every time I have used these older sheets in the past they have silvered like mad,...... so we shall see! I`ll be using Dutch national markings from the spares box and might end up finding them all from there yet! Anyway,.....here are the sprues,..... ready to start work; DSCF2821 by Tony OToole, on Flickr And this is what Fudge the dog thinks of me starting yet another model!,.... not impressed; DSCF2820 by Tony OToole, on Flickr This will be my 2nd Airfix Mitchell,..... as I have just finished my first one; DSCF2842 by Tony OToole, on Flickr I`m just starting to paint the interiors etc tonight, Cheers for now, Tony Edited April 7, 2018 by tonyot

tonyot
Hiya Folks,...... construction got underway this morning following last nights pre painting; This is the interior assembled, straight from the box, it was painted using Humbrol 156 Interior Green enamel as the base colour; DSCF2846 by Tony OToole, on Flickr DSCF2848 by Tony OToole, on Flickr Here are the fuselage sides with the clear waist sections fitted; DSCF2847 by Tony OToole, on Flickr The wings and tailplane have been assembled and left aside for now; DSCF2849 by Tony OToole, on Flickr The other pre painted parts from yesterdays mammoth painting session; DSCF2850 by Tony OToole, on Flickr Lead was fitted into the nose,....but it wasn`t enough so more was fitted later into the engine nacelles too,.....making it a heavy model,...I just hope that the soft plastic of the undercarriage legs can cope!; DSCF2853 by Tony OToole, on Flickr Here are some of the decals that I have located so far,....including the Dutch Decals sheet which doesn`t include national markings! I`m hoping that these will not silver like sheets of a similar vintage from the same manufacturer have done; DSCF2856 by Tony OToole, on Flickr Back to the tea tray,.....here is the basic airframe with tail fitted and wings ready to fit; DSCF2854 by Tony OToole, on Flickr Wings on (for now,....I`m going to leave them off until after painting this time); DSCF2858 by Tony OToole, on Flickr When building the engines take care to follow the instructions,.....it was much easier the second time after learning this lesson the hard way with my first model! The individual exhaust stacks are quite fiddly so beware of losing any; DSCF2859 by Tony OToole, on Flickr Airframe assembled,......I have yet to attach the canopy with its integral fuselage section,.......beware though as this transparent part is very thin and can be easily cracked or split with the minimum of pressure. This is as far as I`ve got today, leaving it overnight to dry now; DSCF2863 by Tony OToole, on Flickr Cheers for now, Tony
tonyot
For my 40th Birthday (in 2010!) lovely missus arranged for me to fly in a Mitchell during a fantastic holiday to the Florida, but unfortunately the aircraft went u/s with a knackered engine so the flight never happened,..... but the lovely people at the Kissimmi Air Museum/ Warbird Adventures arranged a guided tour of the aircraft as a consolation and here are some pics; DSCF0074 by Tony OToole, on Flickr DSCF0060 by Tony OToole, on Flickr DSCF0073 by Tony OToole, on Flickr DSCF0061 by Tony OToole, on Flickr DSCF0072 by Tony OToole, on Flickr DSCF0089 by Tony OToole, on Flickr DSCF0087 by Tony OToole, on Flickr DSCF0088 by Tony OToole, on Flickr DSCF0090 by Tony OToole, on Flickr DSCF0075 by Tony OToole, on Flickr DSCF0063 by Tony OToole, on Flickr My son Rob found his own mode of transport,....time flies,.....he is now all grown up and away at university!; DSCF0070 by Tony OToole, on Flickr And here is another Florida resident at the Valiant Air Command museum, on the way to Cape Kennedy; DSCF0424 by Tony OToole, on Flickr Edited April 8, 2018 by tonyot
tonyot
And back to the model,...... here it is all sanded and with a touch of filler added to the seam lines `just in case'. DSCF2866 by Tony OToole, on Flickr Time to start painting it now and I`ll add a coat of Sky to the undersids tonight before heading off to the pub for the Regimental Association monthly meeting, for a few pints with the lads! janneman36
Love this project Tony, the fun part of it is that the one pictured with the triangles is also the very same aircraft that Airfix scanned! An advise on those decals usage is to keep your surface smooth and gloss enough and use decalsoftener.. I had no problems with these dutch decals of that vintage..they respond very well on Revell softener! tonyot
Hiya Folks, Another quick update,...... the decals are on,.....fingers crossed that the Dutch Decals numbers don`t silver and that the old Frog Neptune wing roundels don`t lift up! Cheers, Tony I remember seeing this one back in 1970 . I was on my ATC camp at Bruggen and during the week they took us out and into Holland to Overloon. There was a Spitfire Xi there too which is now with Hangar 111 collection at North Weald. Got a tiny picture of them both somewhere.

Beard
That looks like a nice model, I may have to invest in the RAF one (it can live with my Italeri and Hasegawa ones), and it's an interesting scheme you're doing. tonyot
Cheers Fella`s,......... well unfortunately the Dutch Decals didn`t play ball after all and silvered terribly,..... as did the old Frog Neptune markings on the wings! So,.... I`ve spent a few hours trying to cut the silvered sections away and then repainting the areas of paintwork which were affected,..... something I could have done without. Then I`ve added some satin varnish followed by a watercolour wash,.... as seen here; DSCF2914 by Tony OToole, on Flickr Next job is to remove the excess and see how it looks,...... it feels like a bit of an out of control disaster this one,....hopefully I can pull it out of the fire!
