Wow...I think I am the first into the gallery...

Airfix Brewster Buffalo, 1/72nd scale, as much OOB as I could make it.  Seatbelts and gunsight are scratched.  Paints are all Vallejo Air.  Decals are OOB, and not too bad.  The MicroSol helped a lot with adherence and they were nice and thin.  Very little silvering and easily cleaned off with a firm yet gentle medium hair brush and solvent.  Markings depict, according to the instructions, B-339E, Buffalo I, No. 453 Sq., RAAF, Sembawang, Singapore, December 1941.

My airbrushing has improved as has my weathering.  I think I'll jump in on the Airfix Boulton-Paul Defiant next and come back to the next Buffalo afterwards.

And so I present to you...

This feels weird...so far it is just me in here!  C'mon folks...build!

The Airfix 1/72nd scale Boulton-Paul Defiant. OOB except for the guns and the seat belts. It is the Mk.I from No. 264 Sq. out of Martlesham Heath, Suffolk, July 1940.

A very easy kit, imho, and good for me to practice more airbrushing and masking of clear parts.  To be honest, I am more of a WW1 and Golden Era builder but these WW2 Early Birds are fun to say the least.  All the paints are Vallejo Air, Eduard masks for the canopy and turret, resin guns from...damn!  I forget!  It is in the WiP thread...EZLine for the radio antennae...the decals went on smoothly, better than most of the thick Airfix decals have in the past.  Plenty of stencils with this one too.  In the end it finished itself.  Very little weathering except for some exhaust and light paint wear on the port wing root.

Spitfire Vb BL351 of 457 Sqn RAAF at RAF Jurby (although I think by the time it wore these kill markings 457 might have moved to Andreas). Airfix 1/48 kit and somehow my first Spitfire since the mid-80s. I won't take as long to get round to the next one!

Roden's 1/72nd scale Bristol F2b, Italian Front, Villaveria, summer 1918, just a couple of months after the consolidation of the RFC and the RNAS.  Flown by Maj. W G Barker.  Observer and manning the Lewis gun, HRH Prince Edward of Wales.

At time a frustrating build due to the nature of the plastic.  It seems dry and crumbly in spots.  Some manipulation of a bit of this and that, but overall came together with few bumps.  The scary stories I heard about regarding the tension of the rigging tuned out to be unfounded on my part, probably because I didn't pull the tension too tight and let the model actually help.  I am giving up on EZ Line so if anyone wants two spools of .005 EZ lIne, they can have it for free.  I'll never use it again.

The open engine is a fun idea too.

Paints were Mister Kit PC-10, British CDL.  Vallejo for all the rest.

I think that this might be one of Roden's better engineered kits, although the strut construction for the lower wing-to-fuselage is bit fiddly.  My jig was essential in almost all phases of the build.

Winston Churchill once said

"The gratitude of every home in our Island, in our Empire, and indeed throughout the world, except in the abodes of the guilty, goes out to the British airmen who, undaunted by odds, unwearied in their constant challenge and mortal danger, are turning the tide of world war by their prowess and by their devotion. Never in the field of human conflict has so much been owed by so many to so few. All hearts go out to the fighter pilots whose brilliant actions we see with our own eyes day after day, but we must never forget that all the time, night after night, month after month, our bomber squadrons travel far into Germany, find their targets, often under the heaviest fire, often with serious loss, with deliberate, careful discrimination, and inflict shattering blows upon the whole of the technical and war-making structure of the Nazi power. On no part of the Royal Air Force does the weight of the war fall more heavily than on the daylight bombers who will play an invaluable part in the case of invasion and whose unflinching zeal it has been necessary in the meantime on numerous occasions to restrain."

The RAF and Me, The RAF Regiment.

Rodens 1/72 AAC.

Brush painted in Humbrol 250 desert sand, weathered with Flory washes.

Rushed out of maintenance to defend the airfield, this AAC is missing smaller headlamps and it’s name on the bonnet.

I've pulled this one out of my current 452 (RAAF) Squadron WIP as it really is a seperate entry. I decided to build two concurrent Spits for this GB and had a third in the stash, so I decided to take this one along for the build ride as well. Funnily enough, the one I thought would have died a slow death is the first to the finish line - strange how things turn out.

So here is the Airfix 1/72 Spitfire Mk.1 (new tool) presented as K9794 from No. 19 Squadron, based at Duxford 1938. I've kept this as a clean build for two reasons. First, I'm a fairly terrible weatherer and second these aircraft were only in this scheme for a short period prior to all bright colours being toned down post Munich Crisis (Sep 38). Paints used were Gunze H72 Dark Earth, H73 Dark Green and decanted Tamiya AS12 Airframe Silver. Decals are from Xtradecals.

As an acknowledgment to the GB sponsors, I've displayed a few photos in 'workshop' guise. It's not much, but the best I could come up with and hopefully helps tie it all together. Thanks to Haynes Publishing and the Britmodeller crew for allowing us to celebrate 100 years of the the Royal Air Force in model form.

Cheers.. Dave

Here's my second contribution to this page. Westland Augusta Puma XW226 of 230 'Tiger' squadron RAF Odiham late 1979. The Puma Helicopters have now been in service for 47 years having joined up in 1971 they are destined to remain in service until 2025. Only the Hercules and Canberra will have served longer but the Pumas are still the original airframes whereas the last Canberra's PR9's were younger.

Original kit is the Heller 1/50 SA-330 which dates from 1967 and 4 years before in entered service with the RAF at least. This is the only kit close to 1/48 with others being released in 1/72 and 1/32. Overall the shape is quite good but the area around the rotor head and transmission has been heavily modified. Paints by Mr colour decals home printed except the roundels from Xradecal. Tail rotor from Hasegawa.

Top view with rotor colours corrected as per comments by TimB and Pete in Lincs.
