Krachenvogel Posted March 24, 2018 Posted March 24, 2018 I'm looking for something to use for radio aerials and biplane rigging in 1/72 scale besides my old invisible thread, and came across this elastic rigging line from Mig: http://www.migjimenez.com/en/accessories/608-rigging-fine-003-mm.html Anyone have experience with this stuff? It comes in 0.01, 0.02, and 0.03 mm thicknesses, which (if those measurements are correct) are all extremely fine, but it's kind of pricey at 4.50 euro for a 2m long piece. I'm open to other suggestions for 1/72 rigging line if there are better options out there as well. Thanks!
JackG Posted March 25, 2018 Posted March 25, 2018 (edited) They are probably similar to, or more likely exactly like, EZ Line and Uschi brand elastic rigging thread, just different diameters: EZ Line Fine – .010″ (0.25mm) Heavy – .020″ (0.5mm) Uschi Standard: .005'' = 0.13mm Fine: .003'' = 0.08mm Superfine: .001'' = 0.03mm Bare in mind scale, 0.03mm at 1/72 is about 2.16mm on the real aircraft - could be ok for radio aerials, but too small for rigging on bi-planes. There are pros and cons for these products -they are not round, but actually are flat, and is more noticeable on the larger sizes, or when there is a twist along the length of the line. Also the finer the line, the more static electricity renders them difficult to work with. On the plus, once attached they can be very durable to any accidental touching. regards, Jack Edited March 25, 2018 by JackG
