Steve_farrier
Hey everyone. Ive started another build. This one is the bronco kit for the SWS UHU. It’s a fictional vehicle thats kind of being maketed as real. There was a Sdkfz 251 UHU, but not an SWS one. Theres plenty wrong with the kit. There is a beautiful engine. However you can’t really leave the bonnet open because of 2 issues. 1) there’s no internal firewalls or ancillaries ,2) a night vision drivers optics actually prevents it being fitted and open. In the 251 UHU the entire forward 3rd if the rear compartment was taken up by a generator for the light. Mans whilst the sWS comes with a pretty smart rear compartment.. there’s no generator. So that will be scratched. Involving the removal of the radio equipment and the antenna attachement. Relocated to the rear of the vehicle. The kit does go together fairly well. But the PE is a bit fishy. The bits around the front drive sprockets don’t actually fit... they are too short so I’ll have to come up with something there. And some of the instructions take some guess work. some nice details... all of which will end up covered up :-( such a shame!! faiy nice driving compartment engine additions The afore mentioned 251 UHU generator reference photo sticky mirror places inside the searchlight because yes this one will be fully lit up!! So far I’ve fitted 7leds!

Steve_farrier
I’ve not managed much with this recently as I’ve been sorting stuff out. Issues at work and then my daughters come to stay this weekend (no complaints about the latter!!! 😀😀😀) i did just spend an hour trying to sort out the wiring for the infrared searchlight. I know these use a light spectrum not visible to the human eye... but figured that was boring! I’m glad I’m not using regular filament lights if have no model left after 5 minuets! 5
Steve_farrier
Started on the light generator tonight. The test fit is pretty good. I’ll have to open a hole up in the roof for the exhaust and add an area to access the radiator fill. Bit of sanding down and it’ll be ready for paint :-)
BlackMax12
You should be able to spot any low flying 1:1 aircraft with that searchlight. Looking great so far. Bronco kit for sure with a ton of small detail parts, they really like a good parts count. Take care, Lloyd

Lol that’s part of the fun 😂😂 only a tiny amount done tonight. Test fit of the generator with the radiator poking through the top. Lining this up was key for me as didn’t want any filler here. Got lucky! some fracyional lift on one side of the roof. Nothing a small sanding down won’t fix. Add some bolts to the top. Then some wiring coming from it. No idea if there are any reference photos of one of these.. I can’t seem to find any. :-/ anyways... happy St. George’s day (for the remaining few hours anyway!) 🏴

Mike
Looks like fun! I built the GWH kit of this puppy quite a few years back, and although I made a ham-fisted attempt at putting a lens in it to fill the void, it never occurred to me to light it, and there was no generator in there to power it either Are those LEDs actually IR? They show up as red on the pics, but phone cameras etc. can "see" IR. That's a quick way of testing if your remote control is working! 1
Jasper dog
Looking forward to catching up this one. Great idea with the searchlight. Good luck.

No they are just normal red LED. Lots of effort to go to for an invisible light spectrum ... I’ve not been able to get my phone to see IR. I’ve checked all my remotes in the house... you pulling my leg?? 😂

If you wonder whether your buttons are failing, just point the IR blaster directly at your phone camera in live mode, and you should see a flash of light when you press the button. If I had two phones I could video me videoing it!
Steve_farrier
Some more recent work. Mostly complete now apart from the tracks. So won’t be long before someoaint gets laid down. I’m oretty happy with the version of generator I’ve added. I suspect had this vehicle existed in this form it would need more modifications. I tried to squeeze a figure in to the light cradle seat.. he would need to be under sized with no knees to fit! 🤣🤣 The chasis is so beautifuly made it’s a shame to cover it all up!!

Steve_farrier
Not much to report this weekend. Way to busy to sit down and do much. Suit shopping with my brother for his wedding. Removing my decking (only half done!) removing bodykit off my 3000gt (half done) fixing my l200 after it blew a hose! (Fixed with a ale can and some tape for now!) plus all the habitual bankholiday shopping and gardening the Mrs wanted doing lol. BUT.... I managed to lay down a simple undercoat and base coat. The interior is dunklegelb and ready to be weathered after a coat of varnish. The exterior will be a 1946 type finish. So watch this space. Inspiration for this is from a fella on my friends list on FB called Martin Von Edelweiss who builds 1/16 1946 German vehicles. Anyway here’s a very gemeral overshot as now I need to light the bbq!

BlackMax12
Looking real good so far Steve. You must have had it turned on last night as there was a bright light in the sky to the East. Oh, no, that was Jupiter on it's closest approach but it could have been your UHU. Take care, Lloyd BTW how's the 1/16 KT coming? Steve_farrier
Small update, it’s my brothers stag do this eeekend so nothing will be accomplished!!😂 ive only done a small amount of detailing inside the engine bay as so little is visable. Of interest is the air filter assembly.... it’s jit included anywhere in the instructions. Yet it is provided in the kit. Considering the engine was an addition to the bronco kit... you’d have figured they would have got it right! There a whole tone of “left over parts” on the sprus in the box. No idea where they go. And can only assume they are for different bronco versions. (Annoyingly the “parts not used shaded” description at the front of the instructions... has 0 parts shaded... even the second steering wheel is not shaded!!) sloppy!! @BlackMax12 it’s still tucked away under my daughters bed! 😂 (although I’ve been acquiring extras for it!)
