really? anyone buying at hannants? its not the kit , that is overpriced, it is hannants that keeps me laughin all the time!

at pas-decals you can buy all this stuff for reasonal prices. the DC-9 is not even 20€ for example...

Curiously enough I was only today looking at Sword's Skyraider AEW.2 which works out as £3 cheaper to but direct from the Czech Republic, including post, than from Hannants.

thats one kit, can you list more? no offense, but hannants is just THE place not to buy! their prices are ridiculous, all EE kits are overpriced, as well as roden, zvezda and so on...

The S&M kit is an 800, not a 700.

It didn’t sell at all well and nearly drove Mel out of the business I think. It’s an ok kit but very short on detail.

The problem wasn't that it didn't sell well considering the subject matter, it's that S&M had 10,000 copies made.

I just hope that EE don't change anything with the open windows -like they did with the Herald.

As a Viscount lover, I'm sure I'll end up buying one to join the fleet of F-RSIN plastic, Welsh and S&M offerings.

A quick Google search returned photos of the same aircraft - but I can only find images with 'BOAC' titles - not 'British airways' as shown on the box.

Ken (a casual observer)

Maybe this is of interest?

G-AMON (I think) taken by me in Prestwick with my trusty Kodak 110 and copied using an IPhone (hence the slightly ropey quality!)

10,000!? Crivvens. That is a LOT of Viscounts.

It might have been a bigger number. Hannant's is still selling them by the case (40 kits per box)

Vickers Discount ???

Thanks for the photo Max Headroom - it confirms that EE got the markings right.

I'll get back in my box now...

Oldmodels decals is selling them out here for NZ$20.00 with your choice of NZNAC decals, the decals alone are NZ$15.00, go figure.

But now on eByay for £30...clearly they haven't thought about their pricing.

Jeff

On the contrary; I'm sure they've thought very carefully about their pricing.  It's not 'cost plus' any more, but what they think us rich Westerners are prepared to pay. There are also probably several layers of 'middlemen' taking their cut before they get to us, so buying them as close as possible to the country of origin would seem to be a better idea.

I'm not sure there are many layers of middlemen each taking a cut as I seem to recall reading somewhere all sellers buy direct from EE.

Checking eBay shows the two main sellers I buy from each sell at the same price but differ in their postage costs, so it's actually cheaper to buy from Hong Kong (kitsHobby 2011) than closer to the source (ee-models in Russia).

Not quite, the V.701 fleet had an additional pax window on the stbd side (11 total) at the back end, by BEA engineering. EE get this right on the BOAC box top but wrong on the kit and decals. Ray at 26 also slipped up in the same way with the V.701, in his decal ranges. Because EE have window cut outs and transparencies, this complicates things a little. The nose is better than the S&M by the way. S&M had theirs looking like the old 1/96 FROG kit which was not so good, more akin to a Lockheed Electra..

Anyone build one yet? Is the fit good?

I’ve got one on the bench, nearly finished - just undercarriage and props to add. The fit is ok, some filler needed at the wing roots, and a bit of blending in of the clear cockpit part was needed. Neither of these have been major problems. The one thing I don’t like about it is that the props are very fragile - I’ve broken off 4 blades so far. Overall a nice kit but expensive for what you get.
