I did the Monogram 1/48 Harvard and it was a cracking model I did it as the chequered nosed New Zealand AFAIK display scheme what a cracking scheme. fubar57
Looking forward to the build. I did the Monogram kit as an F6F-5K Drone. The fit of the outer wing panels to the inner wing panels wasn't the best to say the least. If you aren't going to detail the landing gear bays it might make things simpler if you install the landing gear legs so they're movable, leave them folded up in the wing while you build the rest of the plane and then when you're ready, extend them and glue them solid. I used tube glue for the pivot joint and liquid glue for the gear leg rotation joint
Grey Beema
Ah a Hellcat! They always look best to me in the three colour scheme - Dark Slate Grey, Extra Dark Sea Grey & Sky... 😁 I recently completed the Eduard kit (my third), it really is a great model, make sure you have the right cowling for your chosen subject (don't ask me how I know) and look to the fitting of the flaps which I'm not sure I got right on mine (fill and hide the upper wing join or show it as a movable panel). Enjoy building this one. Do you mind if I tag along? 1

So there will be a Sky, DSG and EDSG one in this thread, Have a seat, a beer, a cigar or something ! I just will try to do half as good as your, if you don't mind ? Sincerely. Grey Beema
Hi CC, Good luck with JV125 E*o I am sure you will do a much better job than I did. Where are you going to get your Red O with the white outline? I made my own in the end as I couldn't source one from anywhere else. If you are interested, this is how I did it. If you have a source fast forward to the bottom:- I printed my own decals for that using MSWord to make the decal and a Canon Inkjet to print it. The word file consisted of the "O" which was Uppercase "O" in Calibri 32pt font. I used Text Effects in the Font Format to give a 1pt white border (2pt might be better) this gave me an "O" of equal height to the F of the other decals in the set. For the Red colour I went into text colours, More Colours, Custom, Red = 168, Green=24, Blue=24. This should give you ID Red which should match the colour of the E. I needed to print on white decal paper to get the white outline because my printer does not print white. If yours is the same you need to differentiate the edge of the outline against the camouflage colour below. I checked and the O is on a solid colour on both sides (just). I copied the O a few times on separate lines so I could have some on Extra Dark Sea Grey and some on Dark Slate Grey. For both lines I drew a rectangular shape in word. Sent it to the back and colour filled them. The first I filled with the Extra Dark Sea Grey Colour. In the Fill, More Colours, Custom in the Red=56, Green=67, Blue=86. and Dark Slate Grey Red=83, Green=97, Blue=71. You should end up with a EDSG Rectangle with your Red O with a white outline and a DSG Rectangle with a Red O with a white outline. Print, Seal with spray laqueur and you have decals. When you apply the decal, cut away as much of the EDSG or DSG as you can but hopefully it should match quite well. Warning - don't convert to a PDF before printing as the colours do not come through the process the same. Don,t ask me how I know this... I'll be looking in after work to see how far you have got. You will finish yours before I finish mine I'm sure Good luck

I just hope that they will save one in flyable conditions at Yeovilton ! So, the plan is to turn the Monogram into an F6F-5P of the Jolly Rogers Sqdn The Hellcat Mk I as JV125 for my Tungsten serie Plus Stan Orr Warbirds ! The F6F-3 with a cat mouth, not really original but I like it ! Mmmmhhhh An Engine resin for the Monogram first ! The Eduard engine look quite good I hope that you will enjoy the thread ! Caracal has eduted the decals for the "Polka dots" Sqdn.so, I cough and buy it! I have 2 RF-84 in the stash, this Sqdn has been involved in both the korean conflict with F-6 Mustang (I'm still searching for the F-6 decals), RF-80 and RF-86, Then they go to Viet Nam with RF-101 Voodoo I like to have the Aircrafts of a Sqdn and follow it through the years ! Did I forget to mention that all these birds are waiting in my attic ??😜 Thank for following ! Sincerely. CC

corsaircorp
Hello Dears , What a luck, as I was makin' my mind to Oramask for a red E bordered in white …. Thanks Eduard ! No more worries !! And the depicted aircraft is serialled JV105 The serial is almost right, no more worries for the engine cowling, since these 2 (JV105 and JV125) are from the same batch ! Funnily enough, these are not Hellcat but Gannet... They were called Hellcat going from the third batch ! Some documentation... And let's go with the interiors ! The seats will be replaced by resin ones ! I love the Monogram representation of the seat ! Just behind the back of Da poor blobby pilot " Ok, I now go for Germany, See you tomorrow !! Sincerely. Very sad CC I agree, but the Sea King lives on for now, operating out of Portland with HeliOperations https://helioperations.co/ I am fortunate enough to live down that way and regularly see the Sea King flying. Nice to see a Hellcat build CC, looking forward to it! Terry
