Learstang
Inspiring work as always, Adrian! I'm still in awe of how you made the old Airfix Il-2 caricature actually look like a proper Shturmovik, and that was years ago. Regards, Jason
AdrianMF
While I'm on the case, I've made a nacelle former from a bit of balsa. I'm hoping to vac some 40 thou card around it but I think that may have to be a different day: Must fill in those ejector holes sometime... Thanks for looking, Adrian

JimHead23
Really inspired Adrian. I hope I can do my kits the same kind of justice as you are with yours. Are you planning a 'wheels up' Beaufort? Regards Jim

The vac form pictures are encouraging when you see such excellent results from using such "sophisticated" tools! I assume thats a vacuum cleaner attached to some sort of home made box? I am going to vac form 40 thou card round the balsa, then cut open the wheel well and use the cut out bits as the doors. All the undercarriage mounting points are still intact on the Beaufighter wing, so it should just fall together. Well, that's the theory anyway. 37 minutes ago, Martian Hale said: Deliciously bonkers I'm only doing it so I never again have to look at that Frog kit and feel guilty for not building it. One of the dangers of this technique is that your wife can suddenly turn up and suggest that you might like to take the vac for an extended test drive around the house now that you've got it out. It's probably the most successful vac session I've ever had. I will need to do some packing and filling on the front one because the plastic is thinner than I allowed for when making the undersize mould but otherwise I was very pleased. I'm going to use the Airfix Beaufighter undercarriage because the wing is engineered for it and it's miles better than the Frog one. waylandsmithy
This is amazing. The greatest change in modelling in my 30 years away from it is the Internet: it sure speeds up the learning process! And it lets rank beginners see what the experts are up to...

AdrianMF
Back home again - travelling too much this year. Anyhow, got to the bench and started with the turret. I think I need a new shape, less tapered: And the front canopy is too narrow so I've added an extra 30 thou in the middle: Time for a spot of cockpit detailing:: Maybe I can finally use that old Airfix Blenheim cockpit: Nah. I can use the seat, control column and pedals from the Beaufighter though, and I've added the table and bulkheads and a new instrument panel from card: Time for those extra windows, drilled at the corners and opened out with the scalpel: Added the central unit next to the instrument panel that holds the undercarriage and flap controls: The throttle bank and the spare seat: The chair has a pile of framework behind it: I went to town with stringers from stretched sprue and lots of plastic card, strip and rod. The chair back is paper: And the front offices are all done! I will add a lamp and compass in the front office just before putting on the canopy, and seat belts when I get around to it. I was going to add chair arms but there isn't any spare space, so they are staying off. Thanks for looking, Adrian 27
