Here's my attempt at a Fairey Fulmar II of 809 squadron FAA, based on board HMS Victorious,  during Operation Torch (the Allied landing in French North Africa).

The kit is the Vista one (but in a Smer box), brush painted with Colourcoats and Humbrol enamels, a Windsor & Newton matt varnish and finished with a watercolour wash.

Should you wish to have a look, the build thread is here:

Anyway, here are some photographs.

Here's Trumpeter's 1/72nd scale Gannet, 820 Sqn., AS.MK 1/4 as seen on the deck of the HMS Bulwark, 1956, during the Suez Crisis.  1956 marked one of the last years for these unique and versatile aircraft--reconaissance, anti-submarine, etc...contra-prop, three-man crew, radar enhanced...a real Cold War workhorse.

I had a blast building this and I think it shows.  As I stated earlier, this forum has allowed me to break the stifling mould my father cast when I was a child regarding model aircraft building---"anything after WW2 wasn't worth it," i.e. jets, Cold War Era craft, and so forth.  Well, that's finished.  I may love the elegant beauty of those earlier birds, the complex rigging, pioneering camouflage and a certain romantic fallacy of Knights of the Air and all that, but the Cold War has really sunk its teeth into me.

But I digress...OOB except for the radarman's antennae and the antennae wire.  Painted using Vallejo Model Air Grey-Blue and Duck Egg Green.  Tire Black, red, green, aluminum...some very light weathering--so little as to be indiscernible--with black oil wash.  This is primarily in the undercarriage. Running lights painted with Mr. Hobby clear green/red respectively.  The nose weight I added wasn't enough. I have read that 20grams is needed.  I constructed a small crutch from the clear plastic sprue scrap and it sits just afore the tail hook.  I think that's it...for your perusal...Thanks Enzo--and whomever else is in charge of this GB.

My first of a brace of Eduard 1/72 Grumman F6F Hellcats; Lt Richard Stambook's F6F-3 of VF-27 based on the USS Princeton, sunk with the carrier on 24th October 1944. Dick Stambook, a double ace who had previously flown the Douglas Dauntless and the Grumman Wildcat in combat, survived the war and ended his US Navy career with the rank of Lieutenant Commander. He died in 2000.

This is Eduard's Profipack boxing, built OOB with a couple of tiny exceptions, using the kit transfers option E - according to the Eduard instructions, the 'Catmouth' was painted on to the front of all of VF-27's aircraft by one of its pilots, Robert Burnell. Paints used were Colourcoats ACUS09 US Interior Green, ACUS10 WW2 USN Non-Specular White, ACUS08 USN Intermediate Blue, ACUS33 USN Non-Specular Sea Blue (for the upper fuselage) and ACUS34 USN Glossy Sea Blue (for the uppersurfaces of the wings and tail); the camouflage was arbrushed freehand so is a bit fuzzy in comparison to the original scheme but overall I am pleased with the end result, Eduard's Hellcat has a reputation as a nice builder's kit and it does most of the work for you :)

I made a few stupid mistakes, and one particularly idiotic one. You can read about it here if you are interested :D

Cheers,

Stew

... and the second of my Eduard 1/72 Grumman F6F Hellcats, the F6F-5 of Lt Leo Bob Mc.Cuddin of VF-20 based on the USS Enterprise in October 1944. The Eduard instructions note his five kills were all achieved during his combat tour with VF-20 but the aircraft carries six kill markings, I don't know if one was unconfirmed or if this aircraft was perhaps shared with another pilot. Leo Bob Mc.Cuddin stayed in the US Navy after WW2, retired as a Rear Admiral and died in 1983.

Again, this is Eduard's Profipack boxing, this time for the F6F-5, built OOB with a couple of tiny exceptions, using the kit transfers option D. Paints used were Colourcoats ACUS09 US Interior Green and ACUS34 USN Glossy Sea Blue. The drop tank was painted ACUS10 WW2 USN Non-Specular White as they were occasionally seen in the old 'tri-colour' paint scheme colour.

So many lovely builds so far for this GB, and I hope to get another one in before it ends, but for now I will stop here and skip over to you-know-where...

RS Models 1/72nd scale Curtiss F11C Goshawk, circa 1933, off of the USS Saratoga--the High Hat Squadron.  Sorry for the display but I have nothing resembling an aircraft carrier deck.  I assume they sometimes parked on land...😉

Vallejo paints all around, rigged with sprue and white glue and a bit of EZ Line for the radio. An easy build and I was happy that the strut construction went well.  It sometimes requires more fiddling about.  Not today.  Many continued thanks to the moderators for setting this up and the gods of modelling...

Airfix 1/48 Spitfire XVII using Freightdog decals for SX159 of 1831 Sqn RNVR, based at RNAS Stretton in 1946. Always had a slight fascination with Stretton - used to drive past it fairly often on the M56 (through it is probably more accurate, since the M56 goes through the middle of the airfield) so this was a natural choice from the options on the Freightdog sheet. Finished with Mr Paint and Gunze acrylics, and the Freightdog decals were excellent. Enjoyed building this one.

Hello all,

Here is my first completed build for the GB; Inpact's 1/48th scale Fairey Flycatcher which was first issued in 1968, the moulding is really nicely done with some well represented detail, particularly the texture on the fabric parts of the airframe., and a quite well thought-out engineering. I enjoyed this build from start to finish with only a couple of minor issues mainly to do with the brittleness of the plastic and my own ineptitude.

The markings are as per the kit but are my own home print decals as the kit sheet was well beyond its 'best before date'. I have used the kit supplied rigging wire 'Kleintex' which worked really well plus I have made my own turnbuckles from aluminium tubing I have also completed the metal parts of the aircraft with Bare Metal Foil.

Many thanks to our host @trickyrich for a great GB thus far, some really top notch builds, well done to all.

Cheers, Mark.

Hi all,

Here is my Airfix 1/72 Fairey Swordfish Mk.I, a genuinely great kit, completed out of the box, the only additions are some scratched seat belts and the upper aileron actuators. The kit is rigged with EZline, brush painted and weathered with Tamiya weathering powder.
