Marklo Posted March 7, 2021 Share Posted March 7, 2021 I’d be in favour of waiving the 25% rule for my Oertz as the hull is going to take quite a bit of work to figure out ( there are twenty cross sections so it’s a pretty complex shape) and I’d quite cheerfully start on the buck now. I"m impressed at the level of anticipation when I'm still floundering in the Africa GB, that I really knew I didn't have time for! I think it best if you carry on with your prep work; as @Enzo Matrix says Airfix don't produce a new model in the duration of a GB (though I bet Tamyia could😍) so what you're doing sounds more like prep than construction...or is there something you want to share with the group?!! 1 Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

I've dabbled in resin a couple of times with no ill effects. Oh hold on, yes I didn't appreciate just how sharp you can make a trailing edge in resin and got the equivalent of a paper cut- but don't let that put you off. I'm hoping to get a load of vac forming done this coming weekend. Ray I know some people in Suffolk County Council who'd agree tat the more they look at Felixstowe, the more they think 'whoops'! It's fine to start vacing (is that a word? It is now) pieces. Same as some of the 3D brigade are having test prints etc. It would be nice if you could keep some photos etc. To make a prologue for when the GB goes live. And then, suppose I don't manage to finish even this? I probably will not enter all of them, but once they have been removed from the moulding blocks which can be tricky, and have been cleaned up, most of them do not need much building. Here is a sample. And here is an example of what they build up like - my BEF group. Except for the 2 guns, all the rest are Milicast kits - Cruisers A9, A10, A13, Infantry tanks A11 Matilda I and A12 Matilda II, Austin "Tilly" and Loyd Carrier - at the time only a later version of the A12 was available in injection at 1/76. The Infantry tanks are in the darker "Scheme 1" of G4 over G3, and everything else is in the lighter "Scheme 2" of G5 over G3, using old White Ensign Colourcoats paints. Ignore the Airfix US Infantryman which was only included to give a sense of scale - and yes, it is the Airfix Waterloo Farmhouse base! Most of the work will be painting and decalling, so rather than bore everybody rigid with a dozen or more individual entries, will it be OK if I just enter them in small batches - say 3 Valentines done in parallel? Air drop from a Hercules? Fascinating scale, makes sense as one third of full size and another one to drop in to the mix of 1:32, which works as an imperial measurement because it's easy to find on a ruler and 1:35 which apparently exists because it fitted the box that Tamyia had to hand. Scales intrigue me and one day I might try to compile some sort of gazetteer of them. Meanwhile, good luck unpacking it. At least there can't be many livery options etc. to distract you.
