Sturmovik
I thought I´d share 15 photos I took while visiting IWM Duxford when I was in London some time ago. Why doesn´t this aircraft have more markings apart from the crosses and Swastika? Was it restored? Edited March 16, 2018 by Sturmovik
iainpeden
That’s the IWM (Imperial War Museum) in London. IWM Duxford is about 100km north of London near Cambridge and is based on the former RAF airfield. If you didn’t get there make sur enough do on your next visit. i am not sure about the history of this airframe but it will have been restored.
Max Headroom
Nice photos and thanks for sharing. I believe that the RAF took back ownership of this when the IWM in Lambeth had it’s makeover. It’s also the top half of a Mistel combination which I think makes it a unique survivor. Trevor
bentwaters81tfw
Yes it's now in Cosford and our Walkaround section. Should be doing DX one day next week. Any requests?
Army_Air_Force
I'm pretty sure this is the same aircraft, seen at Duxford in the 1980's before restoration. I think The Fighter Collection did the work. It's shown below at the back of the hangar, and appears to have been repainted in this picture. Since the Spitfire is in "Piece of Cake" colours, I'm guessing this picture was taken around 1988/89. Sturmovik
@iainpeden I edited the title, I always thought the London museum was the Duxford one. I may try to go to the real Duxford museum if I go back to the UK. No problem Max, though it looks like a regular A-8, since it doesn´t have the connection points for the other half of the Mistel device. Army_Air_Force was that the original camouflage of the aircraft or was it a repaint?
Army_Air_Force
I've no other information other than the two photos posted. The 190 was most likely captured or recovered at the end of the war, and was probably used in RAF/USAAF evaluation, so I expect it would have had an Allied markings repaint during or just after the war. At some point after that, it was probably returned to German markings for display. All speculation of course, I don't know the history of the airframe.

It´s hard to track down without a build number, last year I found the story of the Me 262A-1a that is on display at the RAF Hendon Museum in London as a PDF. Really interesting.
