Plus, no such thing as bad weather, just incorrect clothing! Yup, I too got half drowned at Mildenhall, Alconbury, Biggin, Farnborough....yada, yada, yada....... Too true! It was magic. That first show I went to in 1983 at West Malling, it tipped it down all morning and into the early afternoon. I went with my best mate and his dad, and his dad went off on his own, so we couldn't even take refuge in the car from the rain. We tried sheltering under the soggy tarps of some of the stalls, and gave up and just got soaked. The display still went ahead under a very low, dark grey overcast. Typically, the sun only came out as we leaving, and we sat soggy and stuck to the leatherette seats of his dad's Peugeot 504 slowing steaming dry listening to the chart show.....Dolce Vita by Ryan Paris. Happy days! Edited May 28, 2018 by fightersweep

(Having said that, it feels long ago enough to have been 1893!! The only flying display on the program was a couple of brothers with their hot air balloon. 🤨 2

LotusArenco Posted May 28, 2018 Posted May 28, 2018 But... But I’m a Gent too.. I even put the toilet seat down afterwards! Anyhoo. Wouldn’t mind doing this as a dio. Perhaps in 1/144 N gauge to save on space. Mart 6

fightersweep Posted May 29, 2018 Posted May 29, 2018 That is a great photo, and one I've not seen before. Any idea on the 109's unit and location?

I’ve had it in my ‘inspiration’ folder for a while, and like a right plum, I have no idea where I nabbed it from. Probably off an ebay auction? Mart
fatalbert Posted September 22, 2018 Posted September 22, 2018 I have a long held urge to model the westland whirlwind fighter in its sandbagged rivet ment at RAF Warmwell at the edge of the wood. There is a photo in several of the books on whirlwind that shows the scene. 1
Getunderit Posted September 29, 2018 Author Posted September 29, 2018 I am going to have a go at scratch building this: 3
Corsairfoxfouruncle Posted September 29, 2018 Posted September 29, 2018 (edited) That will be a kool diorama. Would you recreate a scene from the movie ? Edited September 29, 2018 by Corsairfoxfouruncle

Getunderit Posted September 29, 2018 Author Posted September 29, 2018 56 minutes ago, Gorby said: Excellent! Will there be squid?! No mate. The more I research and think about this build, the more seriousness it deserves. Thousands have dead from starvation and exhaustion building the Thai-Burma Railway. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Burma_Railway The movie bridge does not look anything like the real one, but it is now iconic. Have already spoken with Casino Military Museum president about the build. They are keen to get the model. They know it won't be ready till late next year. I have plenty of time to build it. It will be small scale 1/150. The bridge alone will be 800 mm, and the diorama about 1200 mm (4 feet). The bridge will be challanging. However, the small skeletal figurines (1/2 inch) depicting slave labour will be more challanging. And, if that is not already enough, the enslaved soldiers never stopped trying to sabotage the build. They risked torture and death to upset the works. So, in a twisted way, if a sabotage worked without anybody getting caught or blamed, they would have been gloating. So, my goal is to also try and include this twisted humour without degrading the atrocities, and tribute, of that piece of military history. 3
Gorby Posted September 29, 2018 Posted September 29, 2018 Good luck with that Pete, I hope you intend to do a work in progress on here as I love a good bridge. How on earth are you going to do 1/150 figures? 1

How on earth are you going to do 1/150 figures? With magnifying glass, staedy hand, and a sharp pointed x-acto knife "Ouch! That's sharp". And tissues to wipe away the blood. Already have a heap of 1/2 inch figurines. Will spend an hour here and there at nights whitling the figurines down to reflect actual conditions of survivors. In the meantime, I will be thinking what postures I will need. Then cut the figures up and glue them into desired postures. Then paint them. 2

I would offer to help, but I think I'm a micro-surgeon when I have to alter a 1/48 figure. In 1/150 I wouldn’t be able to find the figures let alone alter and paint them! 1
Getunderit Posted September 29, 2018 Author Posted September 29, 2018 Okay, to stop hogging this thread. I have started a new thread in Works in Progress. Hope to see you there.
Clogged Posted November 3, 2018 Posted November 3, 2018 I think this would be a brilliant diorama. Great if Tommy’s Wars or some company make a group of figures like these. Did you know each man has a name and history? 3

DennisTheBear Posted January 7, 2019 Posted January 7, 2019 Just found and what a great thread! I've got some ideas for dioramas but not the technical skills to pull most of them off. I think I'll just list some them without reference to photos. "Zeitreise" A Fokker Eindekker crashed in wood surrounded by 1st century BC Germanic or Celtic tribesmen. "At a Forward Operating Base" WWII Mareeba airfield an RAAF air ambulance is unloading wounded while a column of US trucks, jeeps and an ambulance pass by on the opposite side of a line of trees toward the entrance. (Actually I have ecerything for this one except the time at the moment) 'Breifing' Cutaway of a Nissan hut in Korea where pilots are being breifed on there next mission, big map on the end wall, propoganda posters and movie starlet photos on the wall, F-84 bombed up waiting outside. DennisTheBear 3
Vince1159 Posted January 8, 2019 Posted January 8, 2019 I watched Angels One Five last week and 'Septics' Hurri in the garden of the cottage would make a great little dio..... 2
DennisTheBear Posted January 14, 2019 Posted January 14, 2019 When I lived in Beijing I would go to the China Aviation Museum (built on an old airbase, partly inside a hill) and one of the best parts for me was waaaayyy down the back where a lot of aircraft are parked quietly rusting away. I think (part of) that would make a great dio. For one thing you could use cheap, badly manufactured models. Mind you they have vehicles, radars and missiles used by the PLAAF as well, so lots of scope for all sorts of modellers. DennisTheBear 1
