Hawker Hunter F.6 RJAF Academy and else, 1/48

hi guys,

instead of doing futile work on the Mk.59,

I decided to start another Hunter..... yeah, this pending Airfix kit is intimitating my poor Academy offerings, so I will try to do them and all the AM guys some justice ;)

this time a plain F.6,  but in not too common Royal Jordanian Air Force (RJAF) markings, some time around the 6 day war in 1967

as of yesterday the kit was resting in the cellar, but when I looked through all the Resin and decals I gathered for the Mk.59, it was swiftly brought up :)

and immediately started in order to bring her up the a level were some synergies could possibly be achieved with the other one ;)

this one will use PJ productions F.6 gun throughs with the old style muzzle flash deflectors:

definitely better than the kit ones ...

the F.6 tail cone is from Heritage and molded in one piece:

fit on at least one side is good :)

thanks for watching and any comments, tips and criticism!

The only way to go one better than building a Hunter kit stuffed full of extra goodies; build two Hunter kits stuffed full of extra goodies! :D

You build looks like it is the same kit, all be it re boxed, to that of my current build....looking good so far :)

yeah, there is currently only one Hunter in 1/48!  (apart from a very old Lindberg model) and that is from Academy, reboxed by Italeri lately with different decals. There is also a boxing with aerobatic teams :)

for those interested....

pics showing for me with a Photobucket Embed fix

upgrade without AM here

very through rake over by @StephenMG  who did the Hunter datafile plans

very old ramble on the subject,  and problems that may not be  there,   note the comment  from Edgar as to why the Academy Hunter and Spitfire XIV are wrong...

as can be seen,  with a few tweaks a decent model can be made.....   if total accuracy and 1/48th is yr  thing, seems it time to wait  for Airfix

Good work getting this one together Werner. If you have not yet fixed the seat in place there's should be a part behind it in the cockpit which the seat rests against. In the real Hunter this was a cover over the control rods for the rudder, elevators, and ailerons that will push the kit seat forward a few millimeters.

There's certainly plenty plastic card in there Werner. Good luck with getting it all smooth and seamless. Hope you get plenty time to work on this one and your other Hunter over the weekend.

yeah, thanks Col!

some progress to report!

nose attached, and blended in... not the most straight forward task with all the smallish resin around there...

wings glued together, I open up wylon mounting holes only for the tanks, as this one will be in fighter config!

a Hunter weekend ;)

lower side, including Sabrinas

20180408_002020_1

a bit more effort on the top side necessary;)

kit canopy, can actually only be used closed, as it is too narrow to slide back :(

20180407_233302_1

so I accordingly ordered a Vacform set from Maestro models. it seems a bit tinted or yellowed, but I guess (hope) this will not be too noticeable later

20180407_234400_120180407_234413_1

the front part is from the kit.

and some bad sunshine shots....

same question here: the top wing/ pylon fairings are not needed her, no? do I best close the locating hole?

:analintruder: That's a noooiiiceee build, Werner, my mate!

Too late about the Falcon vac-form canopy and windshield; I recall Jonners' build using that one - the issue with the windshield on the Academy kit is sort of like that on the KP Su-22 kit. It needs some elbow grease in order for the windshield to adapt to the round profile on the forward fuselage.

Incidentally; where did you get the Heritage resin tail correction for the F.6?

Looking awesome, my bruh! :worthy:

Cheers,

Unc2

P.S: Karl's build thread, as quoted by mate Troy was impressive! Too bad about those non-functioning Photobucket piccies.

ate least there is some progress..... that is absolutely necessary, as Airix anounced a new tool......

regarding your input above:

first Karl's pictures are  NOT lost, you just need to install the Crome or Firefox extension for the photobucket embedded fix!

second, I bought the set from KitsforCash I think last year :) yeah, it is great, and I am glad to have it used!

so,....

the painting has started!

paint a Hunter in HSS..... next challenge!

looks like light grey, and that very diry on all photos, harldy every there is a very metallic shade to it on Hunters it seems!. Least so on the rare contempranean Middle Eastern Hunters.... (Iraq, Jordan, Libanon )

used Humbrol Metal cote, added, some white and hemp:

cheers, Werner

Your paint cocktail certainly has produced a fine rendition of the faded and worn silver found on the undersides of a Hunter

Hi all,

unfortunately, but in the end predictably, I did not really finish in time.....

BUT I will still post updates here if you don not mind!

the RJAF HUnters had very attractive checkerboard rudder and fin tips... later those were overpainted, probably white on the tips, and red the rudder.... when exactly not clear, and if on all of them, even less so.....

so I decided to take my chances on them.....

lots of masking work, as there are no decals as of now...  :( hopefully worth it!

20180607_230758_1

white base color

20180609_233527_1

10 checkers on each row (10 squadron after all!)

20180609_234856_1

20180612_225148_1

and here on all the required areas!

20180613_200738_1

still needs a second coat.... but then .....

:)

thanks!

so, more here:

not all bad , some touchups necessary, especially on the other side of the rudder!

you live and learn, but for red over white, it turned out ok! and not pink :)

20180614_122007_1

20180614_122046_1

and some grey as main camouflage color as well! I used Revell 378 as recommended in their 32nd  scale version... looks ok to me!

20180617_102414_1

and again some salt.....

you can see, that by now I "actively" removed the stabs and rudder.... could have done that earlier..... :banghead:

cheers!
