Academy 1:48 Bf 109E-3 "Heinz Bär"

Recommended Posts

First aircraft I built after coming back to scale modelling. It was brush painted with Revell acrylics 45/39/40/49 (RLM 02/71/70/65), the pattern masked with common masking tape and the paint ridges sanded down as best as I could with a 1000 grit sandpaper.

Note: I currently have four models, this one, two Fw 190A-5s, and an A-4B/P, none of them with their seams filled. I´ll try to use CA for my fifth model.

Edit: I forgot to add that I had to cut and trim the tailplanes struts because they were molded too long. The Academy kit looks the same as the Hasegawa Emil kits, I don´t know if the latter has the same issue (I´ll make a topic about that later).

My hats off Sturmovik  ... Thats pretty good for just coming back to the hobby. C/A works ok but its a bit tricky on the timing if used as a gap filler. Try putty or melted sprue( you can melt it in liquid glue). If the gap is big enough you could use plastic strip or stretched sprue to fill the gap. Then basic putty or something like a Tamiya or Gunze surfacer which is a very thick paint. After that sand till smooth and proceed.

Thanks Dennis, this is the second time I build this model, so I knew what to expect (too long tailplane struts and a too long forward bulkhead). I used to use putty in the past, but it ended up drying to fast/not being enough, and then Plasto stopped being available (I´ve never used Tamiya). CA worked for me last time, I managed to make a seamless repair on a wing I have managed to break.

hope the decals weren't too much trouble if they were Academy ones.

This boxing had Cartograf printed decals, so they worked perfectly.
