Right, time to get this project back underway.

I've added the seats to the railings and given them all a lick of paint.

Couldn't wait to see them painted despite there being more wire work to do. 😀

I've gone for a dark grey as I like them to stand out a little against the abundant lighter grey.

The seats are from 0.25mm polystyrene sheet.

Then time to fit the gun movement restrictor frame thingy made from 0.5mm copper wire.

Happy with that, all dabbed in place with super glue.

So then, a big push forward and I glue the guns and other parts in place including the additional grab rails and foot rungs around the sail.

All from 0.5mm copper wire.

Along with a little chipping on the axe decals, and some very light starter weathering, this is how it looks.

I'm on a roll so on go the propellers, rudders and dive planes.

Again, just some light shading on the dark grey to begin with.

I'll build on the weathering as I feel over the next week or so.

Sorry to hear....

And Good to see this back and progressing.  Enviable skill with all the rail-work.

What a great canvas to begin weathering

Rob

Cheers Rob. Fingers crossed with the weathering.

Some people throw it on and it looks great.

I faff around for days and hopefully end up with something I can live with. 😑

It truly is an artform ive always lived by a couple of rules. 1st less is more, you can always add its very hard to remove. 2nd i find that when i reach a point where i say “just a little more & i’ll have it.” Thats when i need to stop.

Cracking job!  Still have my boat started but now resting, so much to build yet get distracted too often to actually finish them😟 Must try harder!

All the best, Andy

Thanks Bill, I reckon it should be finished in a couple of days.

Know what you mean Fizgig. Sometimes takes a little getting back into but once it's on the table, I get on a roll. Thanks for the compliment.

So, I've booked a week off work....

In March!!

I thought.........it will either be beautiful Spring style weather and I'll get outdoors doing some gardening or other outdoor projects I have lining up..............or..................

It will rain and I'll be just as happy progressing the Uboat.

Yup, the Uboat has had a beasting today and I'm within striking distance!😀

Today, I've fitted the tower, radars, life belts and anchor.

Then got started on the weathering.

I wanted to go fairly lightly with this one and maybe even go without rust.

Definitely only lightly weathered but couldn't help myself with the rust, so this is where we are at after a full day's work.

Then a little rigging before the light goes.

More rigging tomorrow. and then the home straight.

Gidday Andy, truly a work of art. I would take my hat off to you but it would expose my bald spot. I found the twin 20mm guns interesting, one of each pair mounted on its side. I haven't seen that before, neither could I find any info on it. Is it to do with spent cartridge ejection? Regards, Jeff.

Sooner or later I've got to try this weathering melarky.

Stuart

Hi Stuart,

For me it's a bit of a cheat.

I couldn't wait to rust up and distress my first sub.

But now, I'd love to do a build that looks real without weathering.

Once my painting is done, my models still look......well, a bit like a model.

Weathering my way to realism is easier for me at present.

Good question Jeff,

As you say, there's not much info out there.

I agree, cartridge ejection clearance seems the most likely reason.
