lasermonkey
Hi, having just recently got back into cold war era USAF aircraft after a couple of decades of almost exclusively making prop-driven aircraft, I was surprised at the lack of decals for tail codes. I would have thought that there would be quite a market for these. I have an old Scalemaster sheet of black letters and numbers which I must have bought in the early 80s, but that's part used and I'm struggling to find anything similar. I'd like to get hold of some in white too. Many moons ago, I used to know what sizes the various codes were, but from measuring some Xtradecal F-4 decals I've extrapolated that the sizes are as follows. Base code letters: 24" "Last three" digits: 15" AF/Year codes: 6" If that's the case (and please let me know if I'm wrong!) the only option I can currently find are the Fantasy Printshop sets, and they don't do the 15" and 6" codes at all, though they do them in 18", 12" and 8". Seems like a bit of a blunder to me. I guess I could always scan and print my own black codes, but for now, the white ones seem elusive. If anyone knows of anything suitable, please don't hesitate to shout! Cheers, Mark.
Rabbit Leader
Mark, I looked into this same issue sometime last year. There’s a company called USAFline who may have all that you need. Try this link - https://www.usafline.com/index.php/products-by-type/decals There’s also this BM review, however I don’t think the links in this thread work anymore. Cheers and good luck.. lasermonkey
Hi Dave, thanks so much for the quick response. These are exactly what I'm after, and the prices are very reasonable indeed. I shall be getting a sheet of black and white asap. Cheers, Mark.
Rabbit Leader
Glad to help.. you probably should have asked earlier as I too also invested a heap of time coming up with possible alternatives! Happy decalling.. Dave
