Wee Beastie
My next build is Airfix's 1/48 Gloster Meteor F.8, with Eduard PE cockpit set, and canopy mask. I bought a Pavla resin seat, but I'd forgotten I had already had a NeOmega seat. The NeOmega is the better detailed of two. The seat is painted with UMP black primer, Hataka Blue Line camo beige, blue, red and yellow. Buckles are Vallejo chrome, and finished off with a drybrush of Vallejo duralinium. The instrument panel, and cockpit tub, were also painted with UMP black primer. The necessary PE was used from the Eduard set, and then to was all drybrushed.DSC_0337 by ian gaskell, on FlickrDSC_0337 by ian gaskell, on Flickrimage by ian gaskell, on Flickrimage by ian gaskell, on Flickrimage by ian gaskell, on Flickrimage by ian gaskell, on Flickrimage by ian gaskell, on Flickrimage by ian gaskell, on Flickr
Lord Riot
Love it! Will you be doing the Aussie one OOB or using some aftermarket decals for an RAF one; there are so many colourful unit marking options! I've got two 1/72 F.8s in the stash but thinking of getting the 1/48 one.

Wee Beastie
Got the cockpit tub together, and the seat has been dry fitted for the moment. The kit allows you to have both gun bays open, so I'm going to have the port-side one open. This has been painted with various Vallejo Metal Colours Gunmetal, aluminium and jet exhaust, then given a black wash, and finally drybrushed with Vallejo chrome.Upper, and lower wings, are together. Lots of holes drilled out for mounting the rockets, later in the build.image by ian gaskell, on Flickrimage by ian gaskell, on Flickrimage by ian gaskell, on Flickrimage by ian gaskell, on Flickrimage by ian gaskell, on Flickrimage by ian gaskell, on Flickrimage by ian gaskell, on Flickrimage by ian gaskell, on Flickrimage by ian gaskell, on Flickr
Pete in Lincs
I bought a ticket from the man, but these deckchairs are chilly in this wind. That is a great seat! and the rest of it isn't looking too shabby either. I do like the old meatbox in it's many variants.

Wee Beastie
Cockpit tub installed in the fuselage. Plenty of weight added to the front end too.The wing sections fitted well, with just a small amount of filler needed at the wing roots.I've also got the tail-plane, and rudder fitted. Starting to look like a Meteor now.DSC_0419 by ian gaskell, on FlickrDSC_0419 by ian gaskell, on FlickrDSC_0419 by ian gaskell, on Flickr
Bravo52
Another great looking build Ian... The seat looks great! How did you paint the harness?

MarkSH
Looks like a nice rendition of the Meteor, out of interest how does it stack up against Tamiya's early Meteors? Cheers, M.
Max Headroom
That is looking rather lovely! If you don’t mind, I’ll crib the detail that’s going under the canopy to replicate on my 1/72 Matchbox/Aeroclub PR.10 mashup. Regards Trevor

For the harness I used Hataka Blue Line acrylics. These paints designed for brush painting, as opposed to airbrushing. Coverage is very good. Used a fine brush (02 or 03 I think), and one of those magnifier headset contraptions. Hope that helps.

k5054nz
Halestorm's my choice too, when I eventually get one. Great work so far!
Wee Beastie
Can't believe this has gone together so quickly! With the intake cases, top engine covers, and the various antenna fitted, the primer was applied. This was the usual (for me) UMP black primer. A small tip I read recently recently, for this primer, is to warm it first. It then sprays so much better.I let that dry for a day, then set about applying the main colour. For this I use Vallejo Metal Colours. I'm a big fan of these Vallejo acrylic paints. They're easy to use, and spray brilliantly.Main airframe, wheelbase doors and undercarriage are Aluminium. The airbrakes, wheel centres, and rocket heads are Steel. Main canopy and rocket pylons are Duralinium, and lastly the mudguards are Dull Aluminium.DSC_0427 by ian gaskell, on FlickrDSC_0427 by ian gaskell, on FlickrDSC_0427 by ian gaskell, on FlickrDSC_0427 by ian gaskell, on FlickrDSC_0427 by ian gaskell, on FlickrDSC_0427 by ian gaskell, on Flickr
Wee Beastie
A coat of Vallejo White Aluminium has been applied, which on advice, which seems more representative of the High Speed Silver the Meteor's were painted. The exhaust nozzles have been fitted. Intake has been sprayed Duralinium.DSC_0449 by ian gaskell, on FlickrDSC_0449 by ian gaskell, on FlickrDSC_0449 by ian gaskell, on Flickr

janneman36
Love your build but correct me if i am wrong but shouldn't the intakes have the same colour as the rest as they are made from wood if i remember it correctly and therefore painted high speed silver! I love what you did with that cockpit you really brought it alive .. Cheers, Jan
Ed Russell
Good looking build so far. It's a very nice kit, well designed and moulded. Yes the intakes are wooden and doped over so yes, they look same as main nacelle. If the "window" beside the cockpit carries over from the previous kit, paint it. Also, some of the stencil positions are not quite right. http://www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.php?/topic/235012202-gloster-meteor-mk8-stencil-data-172-148-red-roo-models/

Once weathered, you’ll hardly notice anyway.
