1/35th Afghanistan diorama - Blackhawk recovery

Hi guys, not posted for a while, ive still been modelling but as i have recently had a baby, the man cave time has been cut considerably. I did however get this finished last year, and some of you may have seen it at telford in the competition area, but ive only just got round to taking pictures of it. A lot of time/effort/money went into it and took about 6 months from start to finish. Its 1.2 metres long by 30cm wide. Ive based it around a fictional story. Also to add that ive weathered the black hawk more since the pics were taken.

 

Its set at some point in the last few years, the diorama depicts a blackhawk being recovered. It was hit by an RPG after carrying out an infiltrate mission in Afghanistan. The blast damaged the tail rotor, the pilot managed to land safely but it was in such a place that it couldnt be airlifted out. The tailfin/gearbox were beyond repair so was removed and dumped, and then the blackhawk was loaded onto the trailer. 
On the diorama it has just arrived at a US checkpoint on its way back to the airbase to be repaired, being escorted by an M1070 Light medium tactical vehicle (LMTV)

very cool, always really liked big trucks and wheeled vehicles, great idea to use the helicopter as the load on the trailer. must look super impressive in the flesh so to speak.

This looks amazing, great job! Only thing I would do is add a coat of matt varnish to the figures to prevent light reflections on the uniforms.

Very nicely done. Like the effect of a snapshot of time. and how you combined so many pieces. Love the rust detail on the truck's frame. You say you did more weathering to the Blackhawk. Did you tone down the satin finish a bit? Just when looking at the pictures, it seems a bit shiny with the panel line detailing and being in a desert.

Looking at this again, it might be the lighting in the photos that makes  the Blackhawk look a bit shinny. I also realised  the trucks would be in theatre and weathered a lot  more than the Blackhawk.

Wow nicely done, what a massive effort.

 

One little thing that jumps out at me is your load restraint chains, they look great. 

 

The way you have them depicted attached to the load and trailer are a bit off though. The chains at the front and rear of the load need to be angled back more so as to prevent the load shifting forwards towards the front, the two in the middle are ok to prevent the load shifting backwards, if you get what I mean.

 

P.S These days I drive a semi and move heavy earth moving machinery around so I'm a bit weird about load restraint...….even if its only a model

Yeah im no expert when it comes to this unfortunately, i also didnt have any decent reference pictures to work from so just had to do it as best as i thought.

Each piece on it's own deserves it's own display, I can only guess at how many hours you've put in there. I love that recovery wagon, what a beast!
