Dear all,

I am restarting my Hunter MK.59 I already tried to do once in a GB.... :(

2nd chance now, thanks to @Col.!

most probably Iraqi Airforce, very late 60ies

20180224_115057_1

PJ productions tail correction already glued on

I have amassed lot's of AM for this and a Mk6 I also have stashed somewhere.... time to build it now before Airfix jumps into the lead ;)

some of the resin does not really match each other, (seats, wheels, cockpit tubs......) but I hope to be able to select the most usable items ....

20180224_113950_1

that is all, but some more decals from DP Casper I still have to dig out!

I'd say a mix of wheels will give you the best results; Maestro for the main wheels and Heritage for the nose wheel. As for the cockpit; I've no idea what aircraft SBS were looking inside when they mastered that but it sure as heck wasn't a Hunter! Heritage wins that one. The PJ seat looks a good option as, once again, the SBS one looks as if it came from something else.

This looks like another one to watch with lots of extra goodies to improve the base kit.

Hunters always come out well, it just must be the aircrafts beautiful lines perhaps.

Best to get this one out of the way before the new Airfix kit hits the selves, otherwise it'll end up as it is for a long time yet.

Good luck 2nd time around.... Col and his Hawker gang will be watching.

Cheers... Dave

A nice collection of AM Werner. I’m in the same situation as you, I have the Revell release of this kit and no doubt Airfix will have theirs released before I get round to it. Look forward to seeing your progress.

apinting and doing smaller things on the intake , nothing to share...

but

what 'bout those recently released rockets form Eduard?

https://www.eduard.com/store/eduard/british-rocket-projectiles-rp-3-60lb-f-1-48.html?cur=1

of course the clamps would be replaced by the rails I guess, but the rest?

how do you rate the Academy rockets? are they close to the real thing?

thanks!

Those Eduard rockets look a good option and even the clamps seem accurate. Two sets of those and a Hunter fully armed with the double tier set-up is possible.

so 2 I need... ;)

and proof that I do not sit totally idle.....

20180311_131545_1

a bit black and hard to see anything.... but I painted all 3 cockpits in a base black color,

as well as 2 seats. For this build I guess the later MK III seat on the right is more appropriate than the Neomega MK II offering on the left! the SBS one is discarded for now..... maybe someone knows where to bet use it!

A good drybrushing session with various grey will help bring the cockpit details to the fore again I'm sure Werner :) The Hunter cockpit, like so many other British aircraft of the same era, was a dark place in reality so a good black base is the best place to start in my opinion.

just in case you wonder....

yes it is on the bench from time to time...

20180408_001807_1

having slight trouble to make the pit fit, and it seems the PJ rear is also somehow wraped....

got the Eduard Brasin rockets, they look fantastic.... but will definitely add some more work here!

as we are at it:

there is a fairing to be installed on top of the wings, as I assume only when also installing the bomb/ tank pylon. When mounting the (4x2) rockets, I assume this is not to be installed, no? (I remmeber reading something about the explosive pylon jettison charge being located there? )

You are correct there Werner. The fairing is only ever fitted when the outer weapons pylon is installed on the FGA.9 so if a load of rockets are on it wouldn't typically be used.

also here:

fuselage closed!

and main filling and blending work done....

slight problem with the fin.... but what shells!

the heritage resin parts are looking good to me! and the PJ exhaust area also (but is a but tricky to install.... apart from smelling like a resin cast lab... when sanding a bit or tippping it in hot water...  :tired: )

AND, I started to work on the RP 3 60 pounders :)

20180413_233658_1

16 of them will be installed......

look at all the PE :banghead:

luckily not all is used, as there are some alternative rocket mountings supplied.

I wil go for the simplier ones of course ;)

(no, I actually belief these are the correct ones for a Hunter!)

20180414_001312_120180414_001328_120180414_001350_1

a hole is drilled at the end, not too clean as you can see!  (again, 14!)

cheers,

Werner

How did you find the wing fit? My starboard wing was a bit tricky to fit and I ended up with a bit of a gap at front underside.

same here.... as I am building 2 in parallel, i did better on the second...

question to the ones who know... ;) bottom color: aluminium/ silver or grey?

is there a rule to this?

thanks!

question here again,

LACG (light aircraft grey ) undersides on the Hunter were introduced somewhen in the mod? 60ies with the RAF.

would this apply also to refurbished maschines ? I read somewhere that this color also came with "wrap around" leading edges ....

any hints on how Iraqi Mk.59 aircraft where painted?

Thanks!

painting has started,

LACG on the lower side, red stabs and nose  :)

top side camo still missing of course

at least that was the paint scheme it was found in derelict in 2003 in Iraq

20180528_133844_120180528_133851_1

the tone of the red is of course debatable, the faded colours are more orange, or more purple....

but there is an old  pic of a Jordanian Hunter with red stabs, that shows quite a vivid red!

and masks removed:
