The references I saw they looked metallic and signs of paint wear. I'll try dig them out. The foam is standard fit out of the factory, glued to the ceiling, and also to the inside of the rooftop cargo hatch: this is based on my expertise with late-model M113, so may not be correct for a 1960s track. No idea. I have only ever been inside a couple and they were both reenactors vehicles so who knows what differed. otherwise i have to go on pictures. Either way I can't be bothered to change things at this stage. I'll just remember for future builds. A small update. The roof is on and things are moving towards painting. Corsairfoxfouruncle
Ok I got through one stockpile of books. I found this book its a good one for M48’s and Track’s in country. The book i was commenting on i believe is “ No place to hide” by Bill Sly. Make sure its by Mr.sly, and not the same titled book by Glenn Greenwald. Thats about Edward snowden. I will hopefully get to that other stash of books over the weekend and confirm this. Dennis

snapper_city
Hi guys Sorry for the lack of updates. I only get evenings to model which I'm doing almost daily and it's either model or update the forum. Things have been moving on quite well but it's going to be tight for a finish by the end of the month. The front finished. IMAG4895 by Mark Inman, on Flickr The back all ready to go. Good old Tamiya tape cut on the Infini cutting mat with added PE buckles. IMAG4899 by Mark Inman, on Flickr IMAG4900 by Mark Inman, on Flickr Next it was time to clear the bench ready for primer. I haven't had this much real estate since the beginning of the build. IMAG4911 by Mark Inman, on Flickr All masked up ready to go. IMAG4912 by Mark Inman, on Flickr Tamiya XF-1 Black as a primer base. IMAG4919 by Mark Inman, on Flickr IMAG4920 by Mark Inman, on Flickr Firstly I tried Vallejo Model Color 889 USA Olive Drab but instantly decided it looked wrong and too brown. Kind of glad as Model Color is a bar steward to spray well. IMAG4925 by Mark Inman, on Flickr Next up Vallejo Model Air 013 Yellow Olive. I'm a lot happier with this colour. IMAG4927 by Mark Inman, on Flickr Chipping has begun. IMAG4931 by Mark Inman, on Flickr Finally the tools of the trade have been painted. They still need a wash but they are looking the part. snapper_city
Hi guys Here is where things are up to. Not a lot of bench time lately so not much more to show. I'm trying to decide if I should do scratches down the sides or just do scratches through the mud weathering.
FrancisGL
IMHO, with the reference photos that you have, it should be easy for you to do the chipping, but an important detail is what you like. By my own experience, I know that, what we do in a kit, if we do not like it, later we try to change it to what we would have done, with the obvious difficulty and risk, of touching a finished model. What has been done so far seems very real and well done. Cheers Mark
Ripaman
Hi Mark, lovely job you are doing on this, and yes I think the scratches would be on all of them due to driving in the jungle but then do look like only surface scratches Regards Richard
snapper_city
Thanks Richard. Yes they seam to be paint surface scratches. It doesn't go through to the metal very often. I have been experimenting with techniques but still not happy so far. Sponge technique dragging down the side doesn't look right. I have tried this technique using Scotchbrite also but still not what I'm looking for. Another technique is placing a bit of Tamiya tape down and thinly painting a line against it. I'm struggling to get them thin enough though. This is not bad for the odd heavy scratch but not the numerous light scratching I'm after. My next technique to try is get a clear coat down and try knock up a batch of enamel colour thinned like some of the Ammo type streaking grim. I'm taking pictures as I go so my next picture update will highlight all these techniques.
Dads203
I found a hard lead mechanical pencil just right for replicating the paint scratches on AFV’s it’s worth a look at but try on some scrap first rather than committing to the model. The narrow tip gives you great control and you can vary the pressure for heavy or light scratches. HTH Dan
snapper_city
I have used pencils before for scratches but I'm looking for the scratches to be a slightly lighter green then the base colour. These will just be scratches through the top layer of paint. Not down to the metal. Unless I can find a lighter green art pencil. There's an idea. I'll do some research. Cheers Dan.
