Will you please stop coming up with such good ideas for GB's!!

Failing that, stick my name down (again!).

Probably join in the recon or night fighting sections, I know I've got a U-2 and some RF-4's.

I promise no more GB suggestions. I have such a back log other projects I want to do that I really need the give GB's a break for a while!

No!!! Please reconsider. At least keep enough ideas coming so that non-aircraft modellers can enter some GBs. I know you love your flying machines but you've got a knack of picking very inclusive builds.

This looks tempting - I had an idea to build a Bofors Gun (AA) for the RAF Centenary GB, but ... as far as I can tell, airfield defence guns were Royal Artillery, so not really 'the thing'.

OT: has nobody mentioned, there's a book called The Specialist, by Charles Sale (Runs away and hides)

thought this old would tweak your interest! :D

we may finally get to have a Nightfighter GB after how many attempts? I'd be building either a 1/48th resin F3D SkyKnight or 1/48th Do-215B-5 (the Revell Beasty)

Yes it did tweak my interest. hehehe I have got so much in the stash that it is im possible to leave this GB alone. The most interesting one is the He-219 in 1/48 or 1/32 scale. I have also got the me-262 or a Do-17Z10. And loads of Bf-110's from revell or Eduard. O, and afcourse a Fw-189 nightfighter. :D:D

I almost forgot my Dornier Do-217N1 conversion.

thanks, I like to try and make then as inclusive as I can, but that can be quite hard at times. I haven't had any other ideas for a while (this was one I had been thinking about for ages, same with the "Rise and Fall of an Empire GB"). I still would love to get another "Non-Injection GB" up again.....though the last attempt didn't get off the ground!!

go on join the fun, I'm not sure if a Bofors would fit any of the categories, but I may learn something new. With a GB like this most people would have something suitable in their stash or could find something really easily......discount bin? :D

:D you were the first person I thought about for the Nightfighters! You're spoilt for choices, I do like the 1/32nd He-219, the Fw-189 though does sound really interesting, is that the 1/32nd HPH one or GW 1/48th one?

The Skyknight (Korean War vintage) is a definite for me but I could do a Ukraine Su-25 (the digital one) as I have been wanting to build it for ages.

Thanks for the clarifications...hope all the "thinking aloud" I tend to do on what might be eligible for these open-ended group builds doesn't get too tedious. After all that, being an aircraft modeller first and foremost, I'm probably going to stick to planes for anything that goes in here:

Recon: Spitfire PR XI or SR-71 Blackbird

Night Fighters: P-61 Black Widow and/or PV-1 Ventura

Tank Busters: A-10A "Warthog"

Ship Killers: RNoAF F-16A with Penguins...

And that's already way more than I can hope to finish in one GB, so I have some definite picking and choosing to do...

The 189 is the GW one. But Ithink I will be going with the Do217N That is also a special one and I know that a friend of me from Germany is working on a N2 conversion so hopefully I will have it in time for this GB.

No gunships in this groupbuild?

I would consider these specialists in their field!!

Cheers, Jan

As they do most of their work by night perhaps they qualify for the Nightfighter section as I don't think its just limited to nightfighters but open to things that ply their trade by night.

very true, though they are very much a ground support aircraft, which is sort of a specialist field all by itself. What most people associate the term "Nightfighters" with are specialist aircraft that predominately fly at night and hunt other aircraft and that's pretty much all they do.

But for a future Specialist II GB with sub groups that would definitely be in it.....I mean who doesn't like an AC-130 or the new AC-130U or J "Ghostrider" (coming soon)!!

unfortunately it is limited to pure Nightfighters, else anything that flies at night could be considered which is beyond the original scope of this build.

That's a shame as it could widen the scope of the builds with some stuff such as night bombers or special duties Lysanders, could even involve armour kitted out for night fighting such as the Panthers used at the end of the war with infa-red equipment.

I get your point, another great idea for the "The Specialists II GB", I hope someone is taking note of all these ideas!

Could you sign me up too please Rich.  I'll probably go for Recon with a Mirage IIIR (I've still yet to build a Mirage!).

Thanks

Hi Rich

Wondering if a figure/figures wielding a bazooka, Panzerfaust or similar modern alternative would be eligible in the Tank Buster category ?

That's actually a very good question.....hmmm. I would say yes, either a diorama or a vignette showing figures with a Bazooka/Panzerfaust or similar would be fine with me. It'd be something different and nice to see.

I'm certainly happy to see the GB opened out to figures of this type

Well it does sort of fit the bill!

I built one of these many moons ago, for a while it was even a whiffy with the cannon mounted on the 1/2 track!! Bugga.....you’ve just reminded me I have a half built 1/35th one sitting in a box somewhere!!!!
