Interesting idea? Wild weasels maybe as well?

hmmm not this time, maybe in a part II of this one, though Wild Weasels like Gunships is actually a very small group of specialist aircraft that are quite modern (Vietnam era and beyond).

I like this talk about The Specialist II GB already! SEAD could of course be a part of it; while we all think immediately about the WW, it´s got much longer history than that. For example, the Malta based Beaufighters that strafed the Axis shipping to suppress the AAA before the Beauforts made their torpedo or Blenheims their bomb runs.  But let´s get this #1 through first :coolio:. V-P

arrrr good idea lets just get this one up first!

But you're right there are quite a few quite small specialist subjects that would make great build subjects. COIN/FAC would have subjects you'd never normally see.

Hi Tricky one.

Despite my appalling record I signed up for this with something tracky in mind. Are prototypes allowed? I've found this....

fm1j4z.jpg

It was built and tested but not put into service and needs promoting. Note that it has two tone camouflage which is very unusual on a Hellcat. In 1/48 it's a resin conversion turret on a resin kit just in case that helps.

well it was actually built, so I guess it's not a "paper model" and it probably blew up some tanks on the test range.

I'd be open to some of these prototypes being included as long as no one really minds (not that anyone ever reads the rules!).

wow this one is up for next year and starts the 16th of March, which in the grand scheme of things isn't that far off!

So time to start planning those builds folks, get those lists for Santa ready. Once the new year is done the start date will quickly come around.

ooooo that looks cool!!!  Is it available in 1/35th??

We'll probably have to leave it at the 4 original themes, it's a bit late now seeing it's now an actual GB.

I know there are a few other subjects that have generated some interest, so maybe it's worth starting a second Specialists GB thread for 2020 to capture those.

I'm currently toying with an RF-101C for the recce category and a Beaufighter II for the nightfighter category.

Ship killers?   I thought about a Buccaneer S2, but I'll probably leave that for the Buccaneer STGB.   I like the sound of a Super Etendard  for this category.  However, there's an option of an Iraqi Mirage F1, although I wonder if this is sufficently specialst...

Tank buster?  There's so much to choose.  :frantic:

2019 is going to kill me; I have already dug out 7 kits for the first 3 GBs and haven't started on the last of this year's ones......

Anyway, I am going for a Canberra PR9 for the recon, an SU-25 for the tank buster (if that is eligible) and a Super Etendard for the ship killer. I can't decide on the nightfighter. Yet....

the Su-25 will be fine in the Tank Buster section.

As long as your build was primarily designed to or that particular version was design to fulfill one of the themes then it'll be fine, plus of course your build has to be done up as such.

just been through the stash and found some other possibilities I'd completely forgotten about all in 1/48th in addition to doing the Viggen,

Smer Su-25K in Ukraine Digital scheme (full AM) - Tank Busters

Hasegawa Hs-129 B3 (full AM) - Tank Buster

Kitty Hawk AH-1Z Viper (with AM) - Tank Buster

Collect-Wire F3D-2 Skyknight, USMC Korea- Nightfighters

Revell Dornier Do-215 B5 (with AM)- Nightfighters

Jaguar Nakajima J1N1 Gekko (resin)- Nightfighters

Hasegawa Ar-234B-N2 (with full AM) - Nightfighters

Planet Models Westland Welkin NF Mk.II- Nightfighters

oh and I mustn't forget about this one,

MDC Hawker Typhoon 1b (1/32nd full resin) - Tank Busters

hmmm I seem to have a bit of a reoccurring theme with these last ones! :D

...and no I will not be building them all, 2 or 3 max, depends on the model I chose
