I think I have something that would fit into this GB - 1:32 Hurricane IID (from the Fly kit) based in Burma as part of my 'Aircraft my Father fixed' long running project.

The Hurricane IID is the version with under-wing gondola mounted 40mm cannon which were specifically designed for Tank Busting. Most of the Hurricane IIDs that ended up in Burma were originally in North Africa and were called "flying can openers". My Dad was assigned to 5 Sqn in Burma which were initially equipped with a mix of these and Hurricane IIc but they were soon  all transferred to 20 Sqn and replaced with more IIc. I need to check my Fighters of the RAF at home for the exact details, but I think it should fit in here.

...and besides the obvious WWII tanks which are eligible, later beasts like this are as well. There are 2 of these in the tank museum up in Cairns, they're so cool looking!

@trickyrich A wide selection of Russian anti-shipping-trucks have arrived at Squarehead Towers over recent months, but did you give any thought to my suggestion of a fifth category:  Nuclear Delivery Systems

Funny you should mention that. I've just added the Raketenjagdpanzer missile armed version to the stash, so would like to join with that.

it'd be great to see another one of these(well almost) in the build, they have such a classic tank killer/hunter look.

One of these with a 120mm smooth bore or 155mm , with reactive armour would be a beast to come up against.

Is a Mk2 SHAR with Sea Eagles considered? Or do I have to go to a Joint Harrier Force Mk7/9 as a tank buster!

Adding this one to my planning spreadsheet if the time opens up.  I've got a couple fun ones in the stash that could fit in here that would normally be odd one out.  EP-3C Orion, an EC-135 or an ES-3A (if I get my mits on the conversion kit).  Also have some options available for ASW... S-3 and a SH-60F.

Admittedly there are so many GB options I want to participate in...I don't know which ones I will actually be able to partake in.  Time will tell.

Was looking into the stash over the weekend and found a few that would fit nicely: a Meteor PR.10 for recon, a couple of Il-2, a type that was maybe THE tankbuster, and an old He-219 that I may build as a challenge... can't promise I'll build them all, but at least one will be built here

  • 4 weeks later...

I've already dropped my name in the hat for 2 other GB's, I dunno if I can complete a third but I'll try. Have a few ideas; RF-4B or C, AH-1F, maybe a TARPS Tomcat, or a F-18 ATARS, maybe an A-7 or A-6 loaded with Harpoons targeting Iranian ships back in the late 80's.

Quick query, would Argentine Armada A4s qualify as a “Specialist” anti shipping? I have just moved house and can find 7 Skyhawk kits but not my FW190 Torpedo Bomber...yet, investigating back up options

Thanks Rich. I have a great reference book and will investigate the options but just wanted to be sure it would qualify. Really looking forward to this one and hoping I can do a few.

Hi Rich,

I'd like to join in please 😁

Have a few tankbusters  and nightfighters  that would fit in nicely.

It's not too far off as well so win win!

Cheers Greg 👍

wonder if a 515 sqn defiant fits one of the categories here...

hmmm interesting one...... The Defiant as a nightfigher is fine, but it looks like these were early ECM/Radar Jamming aircraft which sort of don't quite fit the Recon/ELINT category.

I suppose if it doesn't upset anyone, I'll open up the Recon/ELINT group up to ECM aircraft (or AFV's...ships???). This would allow Prowlers, Wild Weasels, etc to join in, it sort of makes sense to include them into this group.

Now who'll be the first to rock up with a F-105G or F-4G? :D

Hi Rich.  I'd like to enter with this please, if acceptable.

P1100515.jpg

It's VX181, the prototype Canberra PR.3.  Are prototypes OK for the GB?

The kit's 1/96 scale and dates from 1957.   I've got other options available if necessary, but none are as cool !

Cheers

Cliff
