MarkSH
Hello folks, I have a novice tank builder question for the armour biased brethren regarding the M4 Sherman variants that could be used in conjunction with the LCM III I'm intending to build for this GB; I have a Tamiya M4A3E8 'Easy Eight' which is fine, its apparently a nice kit which I got for a very good price but having done some increasingly confusing research I feel that it may not be pertinent to the D-Day landings. The Easy Eight had HVSS which I assume would make it difficult to back date so an alternative will need to be sourced, so; My question is, which U.S. operated M4 variant is most prominent for use in the D-Day timeline of this GB? Thanks in advance, Mark.
JackG
Cookie Sewell, who frequently reviews kits, gives both the M4 and M4A1 as the dominant types used by the Americans for the Normandy landings;http://www.usarmymodels.com/MANUFACTURERS/DML/dml6511.html regards, Jack 1
airfixpeter
Could I volunteer as I have most of airfix overlord set its just minus the Sherman and the 109.
Rumblestripe
I'll pop my head above the parapet for this one. Put me in with the clanky tanky mob. Big fan of the Tamiya 1\48 armour, I already have a Churchill and an Achilles in the stash. Is the Achilles admissable? If I go Churchill it won't be the Crocodile as I don't like flamethrowers always struck me as rather "unsporting"! Might look for a DD conversion for a Sherman. Or even a Universal Carrier. Dunno. But I'm in 😎 Edit: Achilles went ashore on D-day with Royal Artillery and the Canadian Royal Artillery. So it's a possible. wimbledon99
I'm going to have to find another subject as the Hurri was proving a bit of a challenge to corroborate Lots of time to hopefully find a bargain that fits!
Enzo the Magnificent
I think I'm probably going to go for a Tamiya 1/35 Centaur Mk.IV from the Royal Marines Artillery Support Group. I may back it up with an Airfix Beaufighter converted to a Mk.VI, with all the stripy goodness that implies. However, in the back of my mind there is a small voice screaming "Horsa! Horsa!" trickyrich
....which one?? I had been intending to build my "Shark's Mouth" Typhoon but this particular aircraft wasn't flying till Jan45. So it's out of the air for me and into the dirt with a pair of Axis "Specialists"..... gee wouldn't that be a name of a good GB??? So one will be a Flak 38t and the other a Befehlsjager 38, just for something completely different. Just been looking up both models parts count, combined it's around 2300!! I know that a lot aren't used (maybe 1/2) but for such small models...and I haven't added PE yet! I'm playing Co-Host for this one so it should be a lot of fun and a huge GB!!!

wimbledon99
Can anyone direct me to a Stuka (87) kit (or markings) that would be suitable for this build? Thought this would be so much easier to sort than the Hurri but it appears not to be so

wimbledon99
Morning Patrice, I have found plenty of references on 'the Web' to say that they were used but I'm having a problem finding the correct markings for the location. NO worries, I'll have a think about another option in the new year. 3rd time lucky (hopefully)!! Cheers Nigel

JackG
There is mention of a Stuka unit being bounced by American Mustangs on the 6th of June . Apparently they were rebasing to Le Mans in order to be in position to attack shipping around Caen the following day. wimbledon99
Thank you Dennis. I've been searching high and low and have conceded that I need a 3rd option. I've been looking at FW190s and found a few 'Priller' kits. These appear to fit the window perfectly from what I'm reading so just need to find one at a nice price 🤞
Corsairfoxfouruncle
Hello @wimbledon99 ... “Pips” Priller is my favorite luftwaffe pilot. He was notorious for not liking berlin and high command. If i can help i will.

Wait - I jest In all seriousness, I've always been tempted to have a go at a German aircraft but the paint schemes have put me off (they look so difficult). However, I may just take the bull by the horns and have a bash for this GB. I knew nothing (shamefully) of Josef Priller until looking for a kit that fits the GB criteria so again, I've learned something. I have my eye on a Dragon kit (I thought they only did AFVs; another lesson ) so may have a go with this if one comes along at a steal.
