Johnny_K
I have to give you huge kudos for attempting a model from Sanger. Last year I purchased a 1/48 B-47 from Sanger. I opened the box, looked at the contents, closed the box, put it on a shelf and said, "not in my lifetime". I have the patience to finish my models in Bare Metal Foil but I just do not have the patience to build that type of kit. I applaud what you are attempting.

Thanks, but you really should give the Stratojet a try. Check this: http://www.aircraftresourcecenter.com/Gal7/6301-6400/gal6380-B-47-Aibara/00.shtm Take your time, plan (don't ever forget the 7P rule: Proper Preparation and Planning Prevent Urine Poor Performance and I know what I just wrote, thank you very much), take a deep breath, and give it a go. When you're tired, store it and tackle something easy. When the mojo's back, get back to it. It'll be awesome, and you'll be proud. Sébastien, back to preparing the cockpit.
Sebastien
The navigation windows have been opened (one of the initially in the wrong place, but a bit of plastic card and a few swipes with a sander later, everything was cool again). The NACA scoops are opened too, as well as the holes for the venting louvres. I'll complete them later on. And now, I've started the cockpit. I made a plastic card floor on which I drew the cockpit plan as I understand it. I printed the flight manual page at the model scale, I'll use it for shaping the instrument panel: I just entered very uncharted waters for me, and I'm not exactly in my comfort zone. I know, that's the whole point... TBC, S.
AdrianMF
Nice work on a frightening, er, "kit". I got to sit in a B-52 cockpit last year and I was amazed at how cramped it was for such a large aeroplane. Regards, Adrian 1

Right now i am working on two kits, 1/48 Monogram B-24J, 1/48 Monogram B-58 Hustler. Both will be finished in Bare Metal Foil. When those are finished I may consider the B-47 (Then again, maybe not). It looks like it is really uncomfortable in the cockpit. Really cramped and very basic and the suits look uncomfortable.

I've made a start on the pylons but the fact that there's 8 halves to rub down to the correct thickness, it's taking a while. 22 hours ago, Johnny_K said: I have to give you huge kudos for attempting a model from Sanger. Sebastien
I'm even further from my comfort zone than before, now I'm meddling with the cockpit. I copied the shape of the dashboard from the aircraft manual on plastic card: And then I formed heated plastic card on that part: Now on the instrument panel, and cleaned up a bit: The instrument panel on the cockpit floor. I might have been over-ambitious, 'cause I have to install a good quingigillion of dials and stuff on it... The seats are simply put on the floor. They're approximatively strictly identical, and far from finished. To be continued. Cheers, S.

corsaircorp
Huh ! No, I have some vacs but not that big, I started a FR-1 Fireball... I have a Buff of course but the 1/72 Monogram one beside her cousin, the B-36... Big enough for my cabinet ! So, I take a seat at the bar Aaaand Thank you, great Thread, nice job on the rib !! Sincerely. CC
Sebastien
I was unhappy with the cabin floor, consoles and the seats, so I binned everything and went at it again. And again. And again. And again (do you know I'm very good at messing up plastic seats?). So. the new floor, with side console walls and center console (and the big crabbing wheel on top), and the new seats: The seats by themselves: They are much closer in shape (not perfect, but I'll live with it). And now, the spectacular bit of this update: the throttle quadrant to be: Nine 0.5 mm thick, 6 mm wide and eight 0.23 mm thick, 4 mm wide plastic card circles. Just have to glue them to form a cylinder, saw it and glue it on the center console. Then it'll be throttle time (woohoo). Cheers, S. Sebastien
Four down, four to go... Aren't throttles fun? The instrument panel is waiting... Cheers, S.
Sebastien
Seats are almost complete (just needing the ejection handles and the foot rests). The throttle quadrant is almost done too (41 parts so far in it). The instrument panel is smiling at me in a way I don't like. This is gonna be fun. Sebastien
The front fuselage is open for the eventual arrival of the transparent part for cockpit roof and windscreen panels. I put the cockpit assembly so far in place to see if it went OK: Next : the access hatch. Cheers, S.

Sebastien
I've just tried something different for the instrument panel... I just have to find a way to have it printed in 3D correctly. Cheers, S.
Sebastien
And a wheel: I still have a couple of things to add to the wheel (or more accurately to remove). Then, 3D printing, a bit of a cleanup and we have a master. Cheers, S.
Sebastien
Wheel is complete(ish). The brakes won't be detailed (anyway, anybody close enough to check the brakes will be in range of my right foot, so...). Making the holes (27 of them) was entertaining, I'm lucky a friend of ine, who's forgotten more about CAD than I'll ever learn, told me how to do it. So Tom, if you want a set of 1/48 B-52 wheels, just honk. Cheers, S. 2
