Hasagawa 1/72 British Armoured Cars - LINKS FIXED

Recommended Posts

Afternoon All,

Can anyone please advise if these kits are any good...

Daimler MKII Armoured Car

Humber MKII Armoured Car

I am new to AFV's and working in smaller scales - so far I have only built PSC & Airfix.  I am looking at building a load of German stuff next - but these 2 caught my eye and I haven't seen any other British Armoured Cars in this scale.

Henk of Holland describes them and I paraphrase - simple / no major flaws / extra detail could be added etc - not too offensive - but can anyone here offer some other comments - on the brand in general or these kits specifically.

Thanks for any feedback - Steve

Hi Steve

This is the Daimler I built some years ago

They are nice, basic kits that could do with a bit of detailing. However as far as I know no-one else makes them.

Matchbox do the Humber in 1/76 but the turret is rather too small if I remember correctly.

I'd recommend them if you can find them for a reasonable price

All the best

Ben

Not bad based on what they go for on ebay these days.

They are quite basic but a good canvas to detail up a little.

Mine is built almost out of the box, just with added stowage and a figure.

Daimler mkii definitely served in Normandy (11th ADs Inns of Court Regiment used them) , fairly sure the humber did as well (I know the later versions were), but it might be worth a check on the latter.

All the best

Ben

If you see Hasegawa's German Puma armoured car that is definitely worth getting as it's the most accurate kit around (and a cracking looking vehicle as well!)

This is mine with a few added details, awaiting paint

That's a nice Puma I always like to see a model when its in the primer stage.

Cheers

There's a few bits I replaced on the kit - jerrycans (with buckled straps), width indicators (cut down insect pins), wired up the turret smoke launchers, added periscopes to the insides of the hatches and the command aerial (pinched from a dragon kit).

I also replaced the wheels with resin ones. This isn't really necessary but I already had them so thought I might as well use them.

The kit ones have been donated to an italeri kit as they really weren't bad.

Oh and I replaced the barrel as this was the worst bit of the kit (far too skinny).

All the best

OK - STOP - I'm sold ;)  I've ordered all 3 and yes - though Puma's had been around since 1935 - there are photos of them around the Normandy area post D-Day - so I'm sure my Cromwells will end up 'brewing' one up - which I believe is the correct term :smartass:

Thanks for the insight - after the PSC kits I'm sure they will look 'complicated' enough for my basic level of ability

Nooooooooooooooooooooooo.....Where on earth did you read that?  :analintruder:

The early eight wheeled armoured cars were the Sd.Kfz.231 series, these had a ladder chassis with an armoured body mounted on it.....Quite a few of these vehicles survived right until the end and were seen in the fighting for Berlin.

The Sd.Kfz.234/2 Puma was a late war design with a monocoque chassis.

Either are OK for Normandy, but they are not the same creatures at all.

FWIW

PS - Great site for all things armoured car:  http://www.warwheels.net/

I must have typed the wrong thing into google - that's why I prefer the search engine that is - Britmodeller

Thanks for the correction Sarge - most appreciated :worms: saves me opening this
