PE-2 interior colours

Guys, Zvezda call out three basic colours for the interior of their PE-2 kit, all humbrol. these are 129, gull grey, 125 dark grey and 117 US light green.

Am I right in thinking that the gull grey would be equivalent to RLM02, the dark grey to RLM66 and the light green RLM73?

Humbol paints are not freely available here, Gunze are though. Any suggestions as to what would be suitable would be appreciated

Cheers

Interior is in A-14 Steel Grey which is a mid-grey color, some parts of construction  or boxes could be in black, or ALG-5 (which is a 50:50 mix of yellow(ish) chromate ALG-1 and A-14, resulting in slightly metallic RLM02).

Whellbays are also in A-14.

Just to add to what dragonlance wrote, neither gull grey nor A-14 Steel Grey is much like RLM 02 at all. A-14 is a medium, bluish grey. IMHO, whatever you use for RAF Ocean Grey wouldn't be too far off. There's a digital chip of the color at sovietwarplanes: http://massimotessitori.altervista.org/sovietwarplanes/pages/colors/color-table.html .  Scroll down a ways to the Interior Colors section. The chip looks a bit dark, but it appears lighter when spread over a larger area.

the suggestion for green bits is that there is evidence that some Pe-2's had some cockpit components painted green

see post by @Kari Lumppio  in this thread

The photos linked below are from Pe-2 wreck, more specifically pilot's seat lower part with mounting and part of cockpit floor. All in some green. The pieces can be found in a small local museum at Saaremaa island, Estonia. The Pe-2 is from either 276 BAD (13 VA) or Baltic Fleet (KBF) and was retrieved from Vintri, Estonia. IF anyone has Pe-2 losses for those forces late 1944 over Estonia please let us hear from you!

I dare not guess what the paint used actually was/is. Candidates include ALG-5 (which really is green, not some light blue), AMT-4, A-24 etc.

The Pe-2 under restoration at Bodö, Norway had also remains of green paint on cockpit when retrieved. This according an e-mail received from Kjetil Korsnes long before E Pilawskii had had any part of the restoration. The green tone on the Bodö Pe-2 cockpit may be somewhat off, though.

Hope this helps some,
Kari

sadly the pics are gone,   but may explain the instructions for green parts

The Pe-2 that was restored in Norway had traces of green in the cockpit,  though the 'as restored'  one should not be trusted for colours.

Hi Les, Soviet aircraft aren't my thing but if you're interested I do research work for the museum in Bodø so can get you quite a bit of information if you want. The rest of the airframe is unrestored and is stored in one of the museum's storage hangars. IIRC the green is probably an anti-corrosion zinc chromate type of primer which was usually used over alloys and aluminium. PM me and I'll see what I can rustle up for you.

Cheers,

Tim

Hi, Zvezda has used the colors on the basis of restored Monino airframe, regrettably it is incorrect. The only green in the cockpit could be the 4BO on ammo boxes (and even that is not for sure).

To my eye Hu27 is  good match to Akan's A-14 faded as well as Gunze H305 as per Eduard's instructions. In fact I used both on different areas of the same part and could not tell the difference.

I've embedded the photos from these links to your original text, as it makes more sense.  Let me know if you prefer the google links,  but I'm presuming  you couldn't get the pics to show,  I right clicked,  clicked 'inspect element'  and in the bottom right you can find the actual pic url, copy and paste in,

This is a lengthy discussion on Soviet internal colours, many PB pics though
