nuuumannn
Hi Guys, whilst up in Auckland to see the Foo Fighters in concert I went to the NZ Warbirds hangars at Ardmore Airport. Good collection facing expansion to include a dedicated Great War collection. Rabbit Leader
Lovely photos ... thanks The blue disc on the Avon Sabre's Roo Roundel is a bit on the thin side, however that line-up would make a very impressve modelling cabinet shelf. Cheers and (another) good reason to get over to Kiwiland after a twenty year break... Dave
Paul J
Those pics have whet my desire and appetite to definitely call in when I go down that way next year!! Shame about the dogy roundel on the Sabre and even more so to the underwing roundels on the Messenger. But a very nice looking collection and a Beaver too! nuuumannn
Thanks guys. 16 hours ago, Paul J said: Shame about the dogy roundel on the Sabre I'm sure they've had that pointed out to them. The Sabre is far from finished; you'll note it has PNG roundels on the wings and is missing elevators. The Messenger was painted in its current markings whilst in Australia as VH-BJH. nuuumannn
I'm going to be throwing more photos from various visits to Ardmore over the past two years, including shots of Mosquito TV959 when it lived for a very brief time in the NZ Warbirds hangar before going to the States.
Bandsaw Steve
Lovely collection! Thanks for sharing. If I might put in a plug for other kiwi museums- In my view the following are ‘must see’ for any aviation enthusiasts visiting NZ. - Omaka WW1 aviation museum in Blenheim - RNZAF museum, Wigram Christchurch. Take up their ‘cockpit tour’ deal and definitely spend some dollars to see their reserve collection and restoration area. - Ashburton aviation museum Ashburton (about 80km south of Christchurch) IMHO these are all excellent museums.
Jo NZ
Big +1 for Omaka. Peter Jackson and Weta have produced the most awesome WW1 museum that I have ever seen.
nuuumannn
Quote Peter Jackson and Weta have produced the most awesome WW1 museum that I have ever seen. Oh, definitely. Let's not forget MoTaT and way down south the Croydon Aircraft Company at Old Mandeville. https://www.flickr.com/photos/147661871@N04/albums/72157690538805966 ZK-AYR ii Edited February 13, 2018 by nuuumannn Resetting link owing to bad link.
Bandsaw Steve
And the fighter pilot museum at Wanaka - although it’s been a long time since I’ve been there. Is it still going?
nuuumannn
No, Steve, the NZ Fighter Pilot's Museum is now closed, but it's been replaced by Warbirds and Wheels, a combined aeroplane and car museum as a tribute to Sir Tim Wallis. It's real neat. When you're next here, you can combine it with the Warbirds over Wanaka airshow!
