The Spadgent
Good afternoon Lady’s and Gentlemen, I trust you are having a splendid weekend? A relaxing one this end with most of today dedicated to the Lanc. So I thought I’d share the progress. I’ll do this in two parts as there’s ruddy tonnes. 😉 Right then the lights. @isaneng very kindly got some pics of PA474’s lights. I thought I’d post them up as I couldn’t find any on line of this part of the Aeroplane. As you can see the font is clear and the back is..... prongs. 😀 I drilled out the lights and coloured them accordingly. And glued in the rear parts ready for prongs. I used .6 mm rod to create the said prongs bits. Then cut to size after drying and painted. they were filed down on one end to taper them in. Black on the other side. I then began the finishing off of lots of bits. The exhausts got a third Flory wash of rust and sand. They look pretty good. The tyres got a bit of grime too. I still need to wipe that off.I can’t put it off any longer. Turrets. Here’s the mid one with its PE added and brass guns. And here’s the tail gun. I decided to use fifty percent of the PE holding arms on this bit as the kit parts were actually better in my opinion. And in situ. canopy pending.😃 right up. I’ll take a break there and add the rest in part two. Thanks for popping by, hope you enjoy the progress. We have oils next. 👨🎨 Johnny
The Spadgent
Part Two! 👬 after the success of @TheBaron‘s iron chicken vs the dots from mars I caved in to doing some dot blends stuff. I’d never done this before, I had planned on watching a YouTube vid but by the time I’d read about it in the MiG book and seen what Tony had done I kind of had the gist. spots!!!!! Brush strokes. then as I seem to have lost my big art brushes I used a bit of cloth. I didn’t take a finished pic. I did however of the wings. And finished. its subtle but I like it. I wanted to do more on the dark side of the Lanc. white and blue mixed dots. and then streaks. (And toes)sorry. Next up the blue was blended. nearly done, a few bits got blended out that we’re a little sting but I’m loving the variation. more on the sides. and on the tail. All that got a good ol’ blend before I started fitting the underside details. Flaps first. Then the bomb doors, you can just see a subtle hint of blue in this shot. 😀 Here are the bomb bay arms. I used the chrome pen. The turrets got a prime. and the dot filters got a last check over. I must admit I’m glad I did that, subtle but I love the slight blue to the underside. Gotta Take Zero for a walk so that’s yer lot for now. Really feels like it’s all coming together. Maybe a bit more later on. Thank you for taking time to look at my CrAzY. All the best and as always. Happy Modelling. Johnny Colour dot. Edited September 3, 2018 by The Spadgent

Next up the blue was blended. Given how difficult it is to weather and add tonal variation to black at 1/72 and 1/72 scales (well any to be fair), I think that looks superb. A technique I will be trying (eventually) on my Lanc. As per Tony's iron chicken, excellent techniques on display.

And she’s up on her wheels for the first time. I just have to tidy up the break lines. Then I decided to do the flat coat. I might add exhaust marks but part of me wants to leave her clean. I wanted to get this bit done and dusted so I can remove the masking to check all is well and add the last few bits and bobs. Initially I was a bit reluctant to do matte but it seems at this scale to be just about right. not too shiny and not overly matte either. I’m letting that dry now. masking off tomorrow. Thanks for dropping by you lot. Take it easy y’all. Johnny.
Tony C
Sorry to throw another spanner in the works, I'm pretty certain that Tamiya made an error with the rear turret, as the outer gun barrels, are higher than the inner barrels! After all your excellent work, I hope its not too late to correct not that it would stand out anyway, don't know why I mentioned it anyway, its only nit-picking on an otherwise excellent build

Tomoshenko
Excellent stuff Johnny. A note on the exhaust stains (sorry in advance for a "grandmother sucking eggs type piece of advice"), but check the references and other modeller's' builds. The exhaust stains on the outer engine are uneven due to the airflow. The outer most exhausts are quite faint and most pronounced undeneath. 1
