The finish is coming along nicely. Just watch the weathering. You expected me to say that didn't you?

Yes, but one question to you: Do you think the Mars weathering looks something different after all of your interstellar turns?  Is it quite adequate for all the others there in the universum to look at that or would they just say: Oh the earth ones. Never mind!

The preshade is showing through really well.

It really is. I’m happy so far.

Hiya!

Was the purpose of the gloss coat to make the mr hobby more durable to masking?

Tony

Indeed it was. I followed @giemme‘s lead on that.

Lovely bit of airbrush work there fella.

Pretty confident an oil wash will promote the return of the rivets.

Thanks. I can see them in the light so you might be right there.

I did. I did. I will tone it back, I think I might go all oils on this one.

Hi guys.

Very quickly. I moanaged to get the masking off to reveal......

42716100914_5a3109d3dc_b.jpg

thanks @giemme the gloss trick worked a treat. The odd touch up here and there then another gloss coat before I do the slightly more tricky black underbelly.

first the gloss.

what size!!! I’m really looking forward to getting all the little bits and bobs done now. I’d like to say we’re nearly there but I know I’m quite a way away. Maybe not the full year for this one. Let’s see. Looking forward to some gentleman scale action before 2019 shows her head. ;)

Thankyou for all your kind words and support. Nearly six months in. Bonkerers eh.

Johnny time scale.

Coming along very nice John. Looks very well painted in the first picture and it's huge as the second picture shows.  My Revell B-17F from the past had gone straight under the ceiling, but it would  be a shame to  that one. So mabye a clear box for it. Cheers

Johnny,

The WOW! factor has hit the high note. Simply gorgeous. BTW what was the material used to border your camouflage pattern. I've always free handed the patterns. Started with a number 1 tip on my paasche airbrush with a slightly thinner paint to produce the outline and then a number 2 tip to finish the patterns.  Two thumbs up on the paint. Most of my projects were in southeast Asian pattern. Haven't done a WW2 or later war in 20 or more years.

Thanks. She won’t fit in the cabinet. There’s a spot on top however. 😍

Thank you so much. 😀 sorry for the late reply. It’s blu-tac. Rolled into sausages. It gives a nice feathered edge. 😄

Thanks for that. Wasn't sure if it was artist clay which doesn't dry hard. I do use that type of clay to make master molds for resin casts and lego's to frame those castings.

Johnny thaks again for the reply. Something new I've learned

Good evening gents. Oooof it’s been a busy week. But I have managed an hour or so at the bench tonight. Thank you so much for all the kind words too. Much appreciated. 😃

Tool tart or what.

29645099648_dec0924d67_b.jpg

apparently size matters. 😇

I put them to good use.

29645099868_9f85275871_b.jpg

not as hard as I thought to mask.

42799519214_f5d6dcbf92_b.jpg

the main wings were masked in the main part with cut out paper. Turn her over and get ready for paint.

43516419861_f378c3760a_b.jpg

Going on lightly.

29645100128_20c11daed5_b.jpg

I’m using fifty drops in the air brush at a time. I’m going to need more paint.🤨

here’s the second pass.

28629399827_5e636dc934_b.jpg

looking good bit that’s a hundred drops more.😱

42611542865_2ee0be057f_b.jpg

another hundred. Fifty each go. Pfft. That’s it for tonight. I don’t want to rush it.

I’d also done the other side.

28629398607_1d7d9a343f_b.jpg42611541355_a3bd6c54f9_b.jpg

I’m happy with the tone. :yahoo: just needs a few more coats.

Thanks for popping in chums. Until next time. Stay frosty.

Johnny.

Ps. Painting this part reminds me of @TonyTiger66 and the black paint debacle. Thems was the days. :pilot:

I couldn't agree more, she's looking fantastic!

I have to say I admire your patience in stopping & leaving it for a while - I probably would have just ploughed on, put far too much paint on & got a rubbish paint job! I must take a leaf out of your book (not that I'm ever likely to need to paint anything that size!)

Top job Johnny!
