Full of adulation for all the Spadulation that you're putting into that Johnny.

Monster work on the Game of Thrones interior seating and detailing of features. What a beast!

Good evening you lot. I was going to save everything for the weekend but we were sent home from work early due to a power cut. That’s was a shame. :giggle:

So into the Grotto I ventured. Even though I have nearly knocked this off a zillion times since this I found to be a good way of sticking in the PE padded Aimers perch. You can see it at the end of the fuselage.

40561814611_fae0ba1c90_b.jpg

Glue one side of the pad to the fuselage then tape the two halves together and let the one side rest on the other till glued. Looks good in there. I the decided to add the windows and start masking.

40561814261_59a0a62b62_b.jpg

hang on! I have these.

25691169697_251ea76138_b.jpg

So I used em for the inside masking that has to happen, I’ll cut the outside ones myself.:)

38751577710_9810837741_b.jpg

Everything then got primed.

39851106724_e9efb20db9_b.jpg38751573120_6dbfca2658_b.jpg

not being totally happy with the outline left using the clear window parts I decided to use PPP. I applied it with a brush, thinned with water.

26690331588_f877108b94_b.jpg

Seemed to work really well.B)

mai well I decided to have a go at the outer windows too.

39851110514_4f2dc37297_b.jpg

leave to dry for a minute or so then wipe with a little water and a finger. Eventually finishing off with a cloth to remove any excess.

26690332848_cbc85ff3f8_b.jpg26690331278_3a13f10400_b.jpg

hopefully I’ll get away with no unpleasant sanding.

so all the bits got primed ready for paint.

39851106134_3cdc75d49d_b.jpg39851106214_987490b1bc_b.jpg

I really don’t want to add lots of detail to the bits that can’t or won’t be seen but just in case I decided to do a crafty pre shade to add detail where ther was none.

39666575405_ccbcc05332_b.jpg

Should be just enough when glancing in.

A mixed green using the instructions brew and PING!

39851112884_3c596d08b6_b.jpg

As a first pass I’m happy with the way this is going.

25691171577_0979a0caa4_b.jpg

I left the black bits blank for now.

The seats and other parts got some hulk juice too.

25691171907_426f72fa16_b.jpg39851111854_98fcbe798e_b.jpg39666584115_bf7c62bde2_b.jpg

I Then masked the inner fuselage using blu-tac sausages and Tamiya tape.

39666582005_c38878b923_b.jpg

and Blamo!!!

40561813701_519d88dc07_b.jpg

nato black! It’s not quit black black but it’ll work well with Flory later on and it seems to match the Eduard parts too so all’s good. Masking off and a few of the larger panels brush painted and we’re ready for adding more of the coloured Photo etch.

25691168317_9603cd3042_b.jpg

Super happy with that so I’ll end it there, light the fire and get some wine.

40561811191_9886a62c4b_b.jpg

more soon, you never know I might get snowed in tomorrow. ;)

Take care y’all.

Johnny Tundra.

Very nice work, this is slowly moving to the top of my pile, mine will have the bomb bays closed as I think it gives a cleaner line, I did crack and bought the belcher bits engine as even with new parts I recon I would lose a lot of detail when filling and sanding joints.

Thanks for sharing your build it makes a great reference for later

Great stuff Johnny. Only one thing to pick you up on:

"hopefully I’ll get away with no unpleasant sanding"

C'mon mate, you know somewhere, some place on the build, there'll be a need for that pesky sandpaper.

Hello That looks really superb by now, especially the seat. One question or two. I never really did understand the thing with the side windows. Were all Lancs fitted with these at the factory and they removed them on some? Or were some build with and some without depending on the factory. Or were they deleted on all at a later stage of the war? I wonder why they put them there at all on/for a night bomber. Cheers

Early Lancs and all Manchesters had  clear windows. Early to mid production Lancs had the perspex overpainted, either at delivery or soon afterwards. ( This allowed crews to use torches when navigating the fuselage). Mid to late production Lancs had the perspex replaced by metal. Late production Lancs had the windows deleted entirely. (So the fuselage will go from imperfect to smooth but it is oh so difficult to tell from photos). There are several threads on this around. The Holy Grail of Lancaster info is working out which production blocks were affected at what point. I think deleted windows came about around the JBs.

If we know when the modification authority date to allow overpainting was announced, it would help a little.

Hello delta,

Don't you worry; The Belcher engine nacelles are very precise !

When your cut is about right, the nacelle plug in easily.

I tried mine and it's right, the only problem came from the lateral air intakes on the inboard nacelles.

Depending of the Lanc you choose to depict.

sincerely.

Most excellent work Johnny. I wish that mine would be that great looking when I get my modelling building completed. Still working to finish, finally have electric supplied to it.

Johnny

I dont think I have ever seen the colour scheme you have employed around the fuselage area ?? Half and half ??

Surely the fuselage was one colour although it was probably different in the nose section and the fuselage section beyond the main spar  . . . .

I was kinda waiting for an update to see the progress . . . .

I know the 100 squadron crews were painting them in late October of 1943.

I am lead to believe the decision to stop windows in production was in November '43 and when JB602/3/4 and 5 arrived on the squadron in January 1944, they didnt have windows

If you read page six @isaneng explains about the half ‘n’ half with pics too. Hope that clears it up.

Thanks. Yes it looks like the windows were mostly painted out then they decided not to cut the holes at all. The one I’m building has two windows on each side.

Thankyou for all the lovely comments guys. It warms the soul knowing you are all out there.:worthy:

A little more lancaster based action over the past day or two. I didn’t get snowed out of work Friday, I powered through and made it to the darkest depths of Digbeth.

40616978911_33f99d0603_b.jpg

huzzah! Although we only had a skeleton crew as most were snowed in. We were allowed to flee at 1:00. So at least I got some bench time.

I began by sticking on the coloured PE parts that I left out before painting. Here’s the radio table.

39906522904_c3c28f2a42_b.jpg25746782217_86468321eb_b.jpg

I’ll make a little map and a few bits and bobs for the pockets too. Pre weathering she’s looking ok.

the pilot control stuff got some attention.

40616973791_16dfc992cd_b.jpg

As did the fuselage halves.

25746776447_fe3d85eba2_b.jpg40616973721_356b0b6b44_b.jpg

and the main chair.

38807404230_e6d590691e_b.jpg

I also made some little grab poles from plastruct as the PE parts looked a little flat.

39906520324_718fd29d3a_b.jpg

I gloss coated everything last night ready for some Flory action this morning.

39906519844_683509b879_b.jpg

on with the black, airbrushed wetter in the areas I wanted darker and propped upright so any pooling or drips looked right.

Twenry minutes or so and cotton buds to the ready.

25746777007_c5b74da26f_b.jpg

ooh I’m liking the look of this.:yahoo:

38807404030_5109a5d433_b.jpg

some nice clearing where footfall would have taken place.

39906519564_e52e8942c0_b.jpg

I’ll add some bumph in the pockets here too.

I nearly forgot the window masks.

39906524964_5a939826d0_b.jpg

they came off and turned out really nicely. Then remembered I needed to top coat.  so searching around the mat I managed to find them intact and stuck em back on again. Every thing got a mate coat ready for some light weather dusting.  I also glued on the grab rails. (An extra line of black got added to the front section too as I noticed I had finished a little short.)

39906523164_154d2beca0_b.jpg

All the other bits got the same treatment.

26745644248_29f2b455c8_b.jpg

And front.

38807409070_e11aaf59bb_b.jpg

something seemed to be missing and I couldn’t quite put my finger on it.     Then..........

25746782537_d5e2ac642f_b.jpg

doh! I knew I needed more PE in my life. I’ll add these before I do the light weather wash. Talking of that I added a Tamiya powder highlight pass to the first few bits to see what they bought to the table. Subtle but I’m really happy with this.

25746782487_b38e6db202_b.jpg

Same with the radio table.

26745641298_34bc691fa1_b.jpg38807407240_92075def94_b.jpg

At that point chores called so it was tools down and other tools engaged.

I have a bit of free time now but I’ve decided to chill with a beer and a fire and catch up with some BM.

Hope you’re all enjoying the build. She’s really taking shape now.

Thanks for dropping by and as always Happy Modelling.

Tanke care.

Hi Johnny if it's not too late the 2 windows either side of were the W/op sits need to be moved back towards the wing as on the kit they are too far forward, hope this pic helps.
