elmarriachi
Hello everybody, a new project started .... the Schnellboot S-38 in scale 1:35 of Italeri... the new huge kit based on the older S-100 kit. Some upgrade parts will come from Eduard (etched parts of the S-100), some etched parts of Royal Model for the Bofors, some sea mines of Schatton, gun barrels of Master Model and detailed parts of Shapeways. But first lot of putty is necessary to cover the areas where the bolts were used for mounting the two halfes of the hull... Cheers Micha

elmarriachi
Hello everybody, several rounds of sanding, putty, sanding, primering, putty,..... later - it is done. The surface is smooth and ready to continue. Next step will be the torpedotuebes and the new rivets at the bow where I lost them during the sanding process... then I will take care of the display.

elmarriachi
Hello everybody, the hull is done, sanded and smooth now. The riverts at the bow were added and secured with a layer clear coat. The ship will get a white wooden base with two feed made of aluminium pipe, cut already, now sanding it in the shape of the hull next.
elmarriachi
Hello alltogether, some progress here .... added some details on the maindeck .... at the bridge section and the other parts of the structure. Added some etched parts of the kit and Eduard, plus parts made of 3D-printing which have great details and are much better than the parts of the kit. Some wiring and further small parts will be added on the walls of the structure - otherwise it would be very "empty" here Cheers Micha

elmarriachi
Hello everybody, Vallejo's black primer as base coat, the further colors airbrushed only in thin, not covering layers to keep the black base as shadow color. Paints used next: Schnellbootweiß (S-Boat white): Insignia White + Light Grey Under water: Red/Brown Main Deck: Dark grey Stripes: White & Red All these paints are of Mission Models. Some first damages on the red stripes added already, some further scratches and damages on the other areas follow, but first some further details brush painted all around the ship.... then oil color washs ... elmarriachi
Hello everybody, I made the wooden optics with different oil colors and a stiff brush, on a base paint in beige colors. Metal colors Iron and Brass were used for the details ... All this area remains good visible through the open doors left and right and the huge windows... Sea
Nice work on the wood work. I see you are doing a Med boat. My kit arrived the other day. I managed to clean the hull up nicely this time without breaking the tube arches. You have to be so careful with them. My S100 ones broke when I used a sprue cutter onone of them. It shattered into some many pieces I couldn't find them. As a result the boat was shelved. Anyway I really wanted S38 even then. I made one of these boats for CFS3 many years ago. This you could sail like the aircraft. I had by far my best mission in it. This was the channel dash. Had to fight off mtbs and shot down a Swordfish which was attacking the battleships. It was very intense because the battleships were firing their big guns and AA over my head. The air was full of smoke and the sun was rising to add to the many colours in the smoke. It felt very real at the time. So this was a must have for me as I have been hoping for it for years. Now to get the PE. I'm trying to decide whether to change the rare gun to a 20m. Are the 3d parts really that much better than the kit parts? I had a look in the box and they seem pretty good as is.
Greg Law
Well I compared the S-38 and the S-100 kits today. Italeri say this is a totally new mould. That isn't not completely true from comparing the two kits. The hull halves are exactly the same parts. The rest of the kit will be new I expect, so it really isn't a problem. It really is a great kit. I just wish they did a 1/72 version which is easier to display for most of us.

elmarriachi
Hello everybody. The sea mines of Schatton Modell are finished. These resin mines are wonderful updates for the S-Boat. The rails for the mines are made of evergreen plastic profiles, still unpainted. Also the dinghy is a resin model with photo etched details on it.
