Violet Club Posted February 22, 2023 Posted February 22, 2023 I love companies who dares to release something out of the ordinary ! I am fed up with Spitfires, Hurricanes, P-51s and F-16s, F-14s and now F-35s. I am still wonder why there are so much kits of these airplanes on the market and nothing about less know machines like The Gloster javelin, Scimitars and others... So, experimental machines like the FD2 are welcome... I hope they will continue this way ! 6 1

Mr T Posted September 13, 2023 Posted September 13, 2023 That looks very nice, I hope it is out in time for Telford!
Trenton guy Posted September 13, 2023 Posted September 13, 2023 So close I can taste it. On backorder at the big H since March, 2018. Would have starved by now if I waited but still will be grateful when it comes- “ faster than the sun”. 1
JamesP Posted September 14, 2023 Posted September 14, 2023 (edited) Brill! but why is the pitot tube moulded to the nose? Best to cut it off before I break it. Edited September 14, 2023 by JamesP 4
71chally Posted September 14, 2023 Posted September 14, 2023 Looks like a nice molding, be great if this was a start of a collection of British prototypes. 1
Mike Posted September 14, 2023 Posted September 14, 2023 I’m amazed that they’re producing so much new stuff, and more power to them I like the FD2, and I’m going to be the one to ask if we can have one in 1:48 next please If this one is like any of the other kits they’ve produced, it’ll be great fun to build. I’ve built a few of theirs now, and can’t wait for the next one. Just need to finish off my Sea King first 2

Mike Posted September 14, 2023 Posted September 14, 2023 Looks great - that seam gap at the back of the cockpit is a bit large though! 1 3
Whirly Posted September 14, 2023 Posted September 14, 2023 Seems great! Hope they will supply all of the many variations in colour schemes of the two airframes, this would warrant multiple purchases, at least from my side! 😃 1

I mean... as long as it isn't available that is. 4 hours ago, Mike said: that seam gap at the back of the cockpit is a bit large though! The Frog/Novo one had a pretty chunky pivot point
general melchett Posted September 14, 2023 Posted September 14, 2023 Great choice from DW, looks rather nice from the build images...have to be the puce/mauve and cream one for me. Quote be great if this was a start of a collection of British prototypes. Totally agree....a new Bristol T.188, BAC.221 and EE P.1 would be nice for starters. 2
Head in the clouds. Posted September 14, 2023 Posted September 14, 2023 Hunting H126 would get my heart beating(more), top marks to DW for this. 3
tony.t Posted September 14, 2023 Posted September 14, 2023 I'll have to buy one to go with my unbuilt Victor and Vulcan. I don't normally do 1/72 but may experiment with this. Quite fancy breaking out the Humbrol gloss purple. Do Dora Wings ever scale-up their CAD? It would be gorgeous in a bigger scale. Tony
Middo Posted September 15, 2023 Posted September 15, 2023 Yes please. This does remind me though that AZ Model were supposed to be bringing out a 1/48 one and even showed some parts at Telford 2017. I guess they got cold feet. 1
Meatbox8 Posted September 18, 2023 Posted September 18, 2023 Looking forward to this release. As I've built the old Frog WG777 in natural metal I hope they include WG774's mauve and yellow scheme. 1
dora Posted September 18, 2023 Posted September 18, 2023 Hi all. Any thoughts on what the inscription on the photo is? Thanks! upload images 1
71chally Posted September 18, 2023 Posted September 18, 2023 @dora9a @dora 'HOOD JETTISON' so if the aircraft belly landed and the pilot was unable, or incapacitated, the hood could be jettisoned by ground or crash crews. The circular part would be black and yellow stripes. 3 1
Ad-4N Posted September 18, 2023 Posted September 18, 2023 Someone needs to do some What If RAF, RCAF and RAAF decals for this bird. 1

There has been some debate over whether the FD.2 would have been a better choice than the P.1/Lightning. The export success of the Mirage III suggests so. A developed FD.2 would look great in the Firebirds scheme. 3

I personally believe that a combat aircraft based on the results of the FD.2 program would have been a great idea, giving Britain a proper successor to the Hunter on the international market. Of course we know that the RAF had different ideas and they were more interested in things like the FD.3, that had no real chance of success. Clearly the FD.2 in its original form would have not been suitable to be used as a combat aircraft so any operational marking would be a wild what-if, although interesting nonetheless. Fairey proposed combat derivatives like the ER.103B and ER.103C, although the latter would have been closer to an F-106 than to a Mirage III. Me I'm just happy to have an FD.2 kit. Should a BAC.221 follow I'd be even happier.. although one day I may try and build what I think should have been built on the basis of the FD.2.. 1

The BAC 221 would be most welcome although I'm still hoping for Dora's announcement of Wapiti to come to fruition.
Yes_Man Posted September 20, 2023 Posted September 20, 2023 Not one to build prototypes and non-operational aircraft but I just love delta wings so much that this may end up being a future project. Gorgeous looking jet
bentwaters81tfw Posted September 20, 2023 Posted September 20, 2023 They have obviously been following my progress with overhauling and repainting my 2 FROGspawn editions that adorn the bench at present. 1
