If you are looking for somewhere to 'hide', it once built, maybe hang it on the wall?

Colin

I’ve just managed to persuade the wife to allow me to hang a DC-3 picture on the living room wall - adding a huge BUFF might be pushing it a bit too far...

I'm gonna need a bigger monitor!

I’m gonna need a bigger car to take this to model shows when done 😂

You could try a roof rack, but people might think they've discovered a new munition a B-52 can carry.

Thing is, at speed it would create lift and then the car would take off 😆

Tom, I understand, I once nearly build a slope soarer B-52, it hada twelve foot wingspan!!!

The urge still lingers...

At a typical B-52 style nose-down attitude of course..!

Sorry for the lack of updates on this, but I've been busy on the Sunderland and a few other projects so this has taken a step back. I have been playing with the landing gear though and doing lots of trial fitting to be able to get it ready for installation after paint. As is typical of kits such as this, it is proving far easier said than done but hopefully I can post some pictures of progress soon.

Morning guys and gals.

Not the most exciting of updates but a little progress on the landing gear. The undercarriage legs come in two sections: the upper retraction struts and the lower main legs. Initially I had stuck these with ordinary superglue but it didn't give a strong enough join - I needed something more industrial! So it was out with my trusty Araldite and we now have four undercarriage legs for further detailing:

So... where's the Evergreen..?

Are those legs injection plastic or white metal?  Going to have to support quite a weight I guess.  Any idea yet if she will need nose weight or if the centre of gravity is ok?

They are white metal. Should be plenty strong enough for the job.

Centre of gravity is fine - the rear wheels are quite a way back so no issues there thankfully.

Time for a long over-due update on this build which has had some attention of late...

The landing gear has been painted and installed:

I still need to add some of the retraction struts, but these will be done at a later date.

I've also made a start on the flight deck painting. It's had its first coat of grey, and I've also sprayed the inside of the cockpit transparency having masked off the windows beforehand. I've also scratched the instrument panel and coaming ready for further detailing later:

I see lots of interior detailing in my immediate future...

Until next time,

Tom

That wee beasty is looking pretty good Tom. I'll eventually get back to mine, but not before taking all kinds of note on yours.

I'm looking forward to seeing another one done - @Sebastien was making good progress but it's all gone quiet... come on chaps! :)

Looking good Tom. Once it is on its undercarriage, it feels as you are getting somewhere ?

Regards

Robert

Thanks, Robert - and yes, it certainly does.

Just the cockpit to finish off, then I'll need to add some of the smaller surface details and it'll be in the spray booth! Happy days.

Hopefully I'll be able to catch up properly with you soon at the club.

Hi Tom,

I have decided to bin precisely 97.2% of what I've done so far.

I should restart in a couple of <insert totally arbitrary period of time here>.

For now, I'm learning Fusion 360/

And I'm still totally in awe of what you're doing here.

Cheers,

S.

Fair play. We can be our own worst critics sometimes so I know where you're coming from. It'll be great to see yours back on the bench again though!

Thanks, Simon - small little bits being added here and there...

Coming together nicely...

Colin

Thank you, Colin!

I'm still plugging away with the cockpit interior at the moment - ejection seats are done (after being heavily modified) and I'm now working on the underside of the canopy. Hopefully another update soon.

All the best,

Tom

Hi Trevor,

The Easter holidays are nearly upon us (the perks of being a teacher!) so I'm hoping for some serious progress again in the next couple of weeks...
