There’s something quite wrong about this line Steve, they don’t need a box, these excellent models  need a lovely glass cabinet to show off their beauty and your modelling skills. A box just doesn’t do them (or any Frog GB build) justice.

Cheers and thanks group shot.. Dave

No room I'm afraid Dave, you know I've just worked it out that this collection so far has cost me £51 which includes £9 in postage which is

not bad for a piece of real history and a good few hours of pure nostalgia,I've had a good few moments while at the bench thinking of friends

I've not seen for years that used to sit with me  around the dining table on a Saturday morning  building our latest kits and arguing that the

Spitfire was faster than the 109 or the Phantom was better than the Mig 21.What a bunch of Wally's!

A most excellent group! For 50-year old kits they don’t half scrub up well in the right hands.

Looking forward to the B-17.

Regards,

Adrian

Slow progress on her Adrian,I'm risking building her minus the troublesome small windows and relying on clearfix which could go either way.

Hi folk's,out and about today picked up a box to put this GB's kits in so after taking some pics of the Hellcat and Corsair thought I'd

take a group shot of what's completed. What a superb GB this has been(still plenty to go) great builds, great crack and a real nostalgia

trip too,Wessex nearly there only the B17 slowly making progress.

Well after delays due to needing to find a new car and the cat's broken paw I finally got the funds off to Pat for a Vengeance which I've wanted

to build for years so better finish the other's as I feel another one to come with the GB still a good few weeks to go!

Lovely kit... did mine a while ago and thoroughly enjoyed it

And what an amazing collection there :) beautiful... I can't believe how well that P-47 turned out!

Chris you MUST build that Starfighter:pray:

I'm leaning that way...

I think it's a F-104G but there's markings for a whole host of things in there.

OK, for the Luftwaffe colours scheme - what am I going to need. Colour call out in Humbrol enamels please (or Gloy…) Authentics is fine as I have a lot of those floating round too!

A Starfighter in the GB would be great Chris! Hope that you can fit it in.

Edit... it was originally released in 1963 (!) as an F-104-J by Hasegawa and re-issued by Frog as part of its trade deal. I suspect there will be many many many discrepancies in there!

Hi Folks.

If (a big IF!) I get my Sea Fury done in time, I'd like to do a Vought Corsair II.

As far as I can determine (from Wikipedia ) it's the same as the Mk.IV, just different US manufacturer.

Are there any Corsair experts who might be able to confirm this?

Thanks!

Hi Chris,

IPMS Stckholm's "Urbans Colour Reference Charts" suggest that the early colour scheme was RAL 6014 Gelbolive (Hu155) and RAL 7012 Basaltgrau (Hu27 or 79) over RAL 9006 White Aluminium (Hu56). The "paint4models search engine has no suggestions for Gelbolive, but has 27,32,79,92 and 140 as possibles for the Basaltgrau. Hope that is some help.

Not a Corsair expert, but, the British gave different mark numbers to US Aircraft built by different factories,  So, in the world of the Corsair,

Corsair II = Vought built F4U-1, Corsair III = Brewster built F3A-1, Corsair IV = Goodyear built FG-1,

but for the purposes of a Frog model without AMS, are the same thing .....

Ill stick an @Dana Bell here,  as he'll know for sure.

IIRC Frog called their kit a F4U-6....

162165-12155-pristine.jpg

There is no F4U-6,  there is an AU-1,  which is .... well, what would have been a F4U-6,  except the AU-1 was a specialised Attack model (USN naming conventions) which is a modified F4U-5,   and that is quite different beast to the Corsair II/III/IV we are talking about.

one point, the NZ marking experts @LDSModeller  say that Frog did a good job on the NZ roundel blue.

HTH

A brief PS

USN naming conventions

F4U

F = fighter

4 = model number from company

U= company designation,

which explains the off Brewster and Goodyear numbers, as F3A again, Fighter, company model number 3, company designation A , and FG-1 , G = Goodyear and 1 as first plane built for the navy.

It's probably got some more bureaucratic loops

and.... here's the wiki page on it

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1922_United_States_Navy_aircraft_designation_system

Quote

The system conveyed its information in the form:

(Mission)(Design Number)(Manufacturer)-(Subtype)(Minor Modification)

For example, F4U-1A referred to the first minor modification (A) to the first major subtype (1) of Chance-Vought's (U) fourth (4) fighter (F) design.

For the first few years after the system was introduced, the manufacturer's letter and the mission letter were sometimes reversed. If it was the manufacturer's first design for that particular mission, there was no number before the manufacturer letter.

and thus explains why what would be the F4U-6 becomes the AU-1.... (as the first attack type built by Vought...)

one detail caught my eye

Quote

Similar systems[edit]

A very similar system, the short system, was adopted by the Imperial Japanese Navy Air Service in the late 1920s that differed only in the use of the 1 for the first assigned type, and having letters assigned to match Japanese aircraft and manufacturers.

OK, to confirm, I shall be taking on the F-104 and... (wait for it...)

@stevej60 will be taking on my P-82, as he's likely to do a far better job than me!

I keep on looking at my Revell Do-17 Frog repop lovingly now too... I think it would have to be a trainer if anything else is to be built but we'll see... this has to be the fastest I've ever built anything in my life before!

best as ever

Hi Dave,

Being something of a "Rivet Counter" at times, it occurs to me that as certain modellers are doing multiple entries - Stevej60, SAU, Paul821 are all doing 2 of the same kit whilst AdrianMF is doing 3, the total builds could perhaps be increased by 5.. The number of types remains correct.

Just a thought - it would be nice to beat the Classic Airfix total (legitimately of course) and there may be a few more builds in the pipeline.

Cheers

Pete

Those multiple builds you mention Pete, have all been included in the build list tally’s, although I do admit that I’ve not updated this list for a while so it’s not exactly as accurate as it should be. I’m wresting with the Canberra at the moment however do promise to spend some time a little later to get this one right.

Cheers.. Dave

Anybody having problems with the Forum? Yesterday evening I went to reply to something, and the box you type in did not open. It is still the same this morning on my normal Firefox browser, but when I use Google Chrome it works normally. Most odd!

Not that problem Peter, however on about three occasions I’ve received a message to say that I’ve used up all my ‘likes’ for the day, then I attempt it again thirty minutes later and it works fine. I had issues all last week however thought it was isolated to me, perhaps it’s bigger than that.

Cheers.. Dave

Not quite the same thing Dave, but quite often when I try and "like" something I get a message "problem responding to that post". Sometimes it work, sometimes I have to do it again. What with that and the Error 500 bug when you try and "page back" the site is clearly having problems. Most have already been reported it seems but are clearly proving hard to fix. I think I will post the Firefox thing on the help page.

Cheers

Emilia has done some painting of the Spitfire and V1.  I'm not sure the shades are particularly authentic, but she did a good job of the camo demarcationon the Spit!

She shows considerable promise for the future. My son did have a go at kits, but his hand-eye coordination is terrible so he gave up and went back to computer games.

With the B17 languishing on the shelf of "I can't face it anymore" I was looking forward to finishing the Vengeance and Skua and sitting

back for the last few weeks of the GB watching everyone else working away then a parcel arrived from Chris(English Electric) which

included a barely started Black Widow,Anyone got spare decal's for one?
