Boeing 737-300 - WP's Simpsons #FINISHED#

Here is my entry for the GB, I have had this in the pile for a few years now and I think that I should take this opportunity to put it together. The yellow paint could be fun to do, I just hope that I can get a nice dense even colour. I may even be tempted to splash out on some Authentic Airlines windows for this one. The box and sprue shots are shown below.

Cheers Martin, someone who shall remain nameless, but whose initials are @Hockeyboy76, is trying to convince me that pink primer is the way to go for the yellow. :hmmm::shrug:

Reading on the T’interweb, that Silver is supposed to be a good undercoat for yellow too. I’m still up for 👚 tho. Shall have to have a little experiment in the cave. (When it’s warmer!)

The Italian specialist paint company that was demonstrating their product at Telford 2016 were using a sort of creamy colour primer. When I asked why they explainedthat it was the only colour (after extensive measurement in their light cabinet!) that did not influence the final finish colour.

Curious but they were adamant.

I realise there is an element of kidology going on here but Halfords recommend that most of their yellows are applied over white.  If my HLX -400 makes it to the painting stage I'll have to use white because the lower fuselage is very, very pale grey and I can't be bothered using two different primers.

Joking apart chaps. thanks for all of your helpful advice, it really is appreciated. I have been doing some research myself, and an off white primer crops up frequently so white/off-white and yellow seem to be valid options and will be the route I'll be heading down.

I hope that the specialist airliner builders out there can help me with some further advice though. I have built a few airliners with a fair outcome, but would like to take them up a notch and so, after noticing other airline modellers using them, I bought a set of Authentic Airliner window decals for this build. In one on-line review a modeller suggested that the recessed cockpit window detail and door outlines are filled before painting and applying the decals, I wondered if this was standard practise.

I made a start on the kit yesterday and have assembled the wings, added the undercarriage bays to one half along with some liquid gravity and a small fishing weight to nose on both sides.

And finally, It's goodnight from me, and it's goodnight from ..... No! No!, can somebody tell me what these two spigots in the main undercarriage bays represent.

The spigots don't represent anything.  I suspect they're there to help eject the parts from the mould. They can't be seen on the finished model so I just leave them alone but if I was going to detail the undercarriage bay I'd remove them.

Looking, good. Yes, I'd fill the cockpit window indentations if using decals, and also the door outlines. Sometimes the door decals don't match the engravings. Guess how I know!

It is up the your personal preferences, but the Cockpit windows really need to be flush to get the best benefit from the Authentic Airliners decal

Thanks for your helpful advice John, bet you can't guess what my next job is.

I'm guessing you are going to super detail the undercarriage bay now you know what it looks like, I love it when others do that, although I personally never bother, I will put a picture in your own thread to help you out  :P

Dave, could the spigots represent the cylinders visible in the 5th pic of reply#8 in this thread? Just a thought.

Cheers,

Ian

That's entirely possible now that you point it out.  Every day's a school day on Britmodeller!  It seems odd that Danny made such a neat job of the little pump thingy which sits on the belly section between the wheel wells but just left two plain spigots to represent the cylinders.

Probably thought that if you were that serious about the details the modeller could knit his own. :D

@Graeme H

Detailing won't be happening anytime soon bud, I've run out of spiders web.
