I have just received one of these kits from Asia. I should state up front, that I'm no expert on the F-35 and had not really been motivated previously to purchase a kit of the aircraft since most offerings appeared rather mediocre to say the least (and were probably based on pre-production examples etc). When Meng announced they would enter the market, my interest picked up since I do have a desire to add a Royal Norwegian Air Force example to my collection. First impressions on opening the box are very favorable indeed. I was struck by how big the aircraft is - for some reason I thought it was much smaller. The stealthy tiling on the fuselage and wing surfaces appears to be nicely rendered (not too pronounced) and the detail on the undercarriage and main weapons bay, together with the cockpit is very good indeed. My kit comes with eight GBU-53 Small Diameter Bombs (SDB) and two AIM-120C AMRAAMs, which all go into the internal weapons bay. The kit does also include a full complement of wing mounted stores pylons but no weapons to hang on them. I guess this is where the seperately marketed Meng weapons sets come into play. To be honest, I will be content with just having the internal weapons on show in an open weapons bay - I dont think the F-35 looks 'right' without clean wings but that's a personal view. Other nice features include a full inlet duct system to avoid 'see through' and two options for mounting the horizontal stabilators at different angles. I will probably replace the wheels with resin aftermarket products but that's just some of my AMS tendency coming out .....the ones in the kit are fine.

Like I said at the start, I'm no expert on the F-35 and I have no other 1:48 scale kits of the aircraft to provide any direct comparison but I am very happy with what Meng have provided in this kit and will proceed accordingly. I notice the Big H are now stocking the kit - it arrived on UK shores last week, although I suspects sales will not be as brisk as they would be if it was the RAF/FAA variant.

I have one at the painting stage just now. The kit goes together quite easily and fit is very good. The only areas of concern are the vertical stabilisers and the wings which have seams requiring filling. The fir is almost too positive in a couple of places such as the canopy if it's fitted in the closed position and requires some fettling.

A lot of decals vs of a lot of masks. What do you prefer?

Hi VP,

I'll go with the masks.

I'm far too good at ruining decals...

Isradecal Studio RAM decals for the 1/48 Meng F-35A !

Here is another interesting choice for the 1/48 Meng model of the F-35A:

A double sheet of decals for all the RAM surfaces (radar absorb material) announced by IsraDecal Studio for a near future.

17.92 L / 20.41 E / Us $ 25.36.

Someone finally thought about it and it's IsraDecal Studio.

For all those who like to put a hundred (or two) decals on a single model.

Neither!! It's another boring, grey jet and, I don't do boring grey!!. I'd whip up an alternative colour scheme of my own choosing! Let the rivet counters beware!!:P:lol:.To be honest, it's a hideous, ugly thing that I would never have contemplated buying in the first place but, my partner (bless her!) contrived to buy me one as a Crimbo gift!! Far be it for me to refuse!!

nice!

but I wonder if that scheme was actually flown?

https://theaviationist.com/2018/11/18/dutch-f-35a-with-special-tail-markings-unveiled-at-edwards-afb/

after some more searching, I came up with another one, more matching design and probably also really painted on...at IPMS.NL:
