KFIR C10 Colombian Airforce AMK/ Wingman / Aztec 1/48 -- finished!

Recommended Posts

HI everybody,

First of all, 10 years BM! That is to be celebrated! Thanks everybody for participating that intensly in the arguably best scale modelling forum!

Therefor an appropriate kit, wants to get build ;)

as already announced in the discussion section, I am going to try my luck on a Kfir C10  conversion!

the brand new AMK upgraded Kfir (one week delivery from Hobbyeasy!!) kit forms the basis, Wingman Models conversion kit the necessary ingredient, and HPM produced Derby missile and Skunkworks (Kinetic ) PhytonV and Spice bomb

so this is what I have for now:

20180118_194502_1

that is what I want to build:

thanks guys!

not much of an in progress yet, but, unconventionally I started yesterday to assembyl the Skunkworks (kinetic) weapons fom the Israeli weaponsset.

20180130_221150_1

Python 5  on top and Spice guided bomb below

20180130_225822_1

Spice bombs, strange design with lots of control and stab surfaces......

20180130_234543_1

Python 5  ....one could actually say the same!  strange design with lots of control and stab surfaces......2 small controll fins are actually even missing (could B) done in PE though)

I will cross check the missile dimesnsions and geometry, the 8 front fins look quite large...... but they are supposed to be large anyways...

more recent Academy F-15s should have some, no? will check the stash!

thats it for now,

Werner

cut some kit plastic and also found a PE set in the stash :)  this is actually my 2nd AMK Kfir.....  but now in upgraded form :)

20180201_223105_1

the new radar nose section does not look like a major fit problem :

20180131_231809_1

maybe I will replace the strakes... with some PE leftovers!

I slightly modified the cockpit section in order to fit the Wingman models resin sample for the C10

20180201_223009_1

looks like straight forward for now!

cheers,

Werner

interesting detail of the Python 5...

20180206_131134_1

Adademy missile top an right, Skunk Works Python low and left respectively

20180206_131151_1

differences in the front fin size, estetically I prefer the Academy ones (this one coming from the recentyl completed F-111C upgrade kit, need to find a second one!)

Academy is also slightly (1-2 mm) longer

It's nice to see a 'small air force' represented :)

thanks Cliff!

but the aim was not to have a smaller airforce represented, but provide an interesting and worthy subject ;)

Actually I plnned to do  Kfir CE form Ecuador with this conversion, but as there is no 10 in it....

anyways, some update

the nose fits very well, hardly any diameter dificulties!

ony challenge is to find the (a) correct looking angle.... that would be the same though with the Kinetic base kit! (I checked ;) )

20180216_151319_120180216_151328_120180216_151331_120180216_151352_120180216_151358_1

what do you think?

does this look like a KFIR CE/ C10 shape?

I'd happily correct at this stage :P

cheers,

Werner

Just out of Curiousity ? But whats the opening forward of the nose gear bay ?

It is for the panel which carries the Pave Penny? Laser spot tracker on the C7 I guess.

See this excellent photo

some work done on the landing gear bays,  the PE adds in my opinion!

air intakes pre-painted, and time to think about the front canopy... the most critical part as the design in notably different between Kinetic and AMK!

Looking very nice. Looks like the intakes have a good fit. You have build Kinetic’ Mirage kit, is the AMK (much?) better?

A bit of a struggle, but coming along very well.

would not call it a struggle! it is a conversion after all, and even for another kit! quite straight forward actually!

Evert

no, I have the kits, but did not build any of the Kinetic Mirages yet (III and 2000) so I cannot comment here.

I can say though that this is my second AMK Kfir see here:

and it does go together very very well. Hard to top. Last time I did care more about this and had not troubles whatsoever, this time I could have focused a bit more on the wing-fuselage joint, but as I did not look up into the instructions and did what I fancied....... but it turned out ok as well. :)

had a go on the canopy,

as mentioned above, the wind-screen design notably different on the Kinetic and AMK kits. The former moulds part of the fuselage as well, AMK only as the framed parts in transparent ... no idea what is better actually!    but for my case it means I have to remove some plastic and or vacform ;) (you could not fit the AMK cwind screen to the Kinetic kit for the lack of material...)

20180217_190019_1

top: Kinetic, middle Wingman vacform frameless C10 part, and bottom the AMK one... spot the differences! ;)

sorry for the picture, but with flash form the mobile it turned out like that.....!

some dry fitting (no glue yet) some sanding of the sills, and it looks fine! dipped it it future, so it dries now :)

Ow I thought you had build a Mirage III. Nevertheless very complete answer to my question. The fitt of the canopy seems to be good as you mentioned. And the last pictures shows it very well.

Can't wait to visit my LHS within a few weeks and buy all the goodies to build a C10!

Cheers, Evert

Well the distinctive refueling probe is there so that makes it a KFIR!. I see you use the Tamiya curve tape, great stuff isn't it?

yeah, and the large canards, the large  square intake in font of the fin, the short rear end, pylons.... that is what distinguies Kfirs from Mirage III variants.

the refueling probe is actually not a must, but very caracteristic! as is the single frame front canopy only to be found in Cheetac C some D, Kfir C10, CE and C12 /TC12...

and of course the long radar nose only on CE, C10 and a bit different on the Cheetah C

great base aeroplane in any case!  (Mirage III - first flight in 1956 or IIIA in 58!!)

some quite crude pre-shading, and bay painting

20180225_192202_1

not sure about the mid wing pylons yet, those are rarely seen bomb or external load pylons, also not entirely correct for my planned 4 missile load out.....

20180225_192152_1

also note the short pitot, unique to CE and C10 versions (by Master already included in the Wingman conversion set :)  )
