Airfix 1/48 Meteor

If the kit will not be modular (F8 only), it will be interesting to see if Airfix will at least include the option for large and small intakes...

Im planning to get several of the Airfix F8's, but will not get rid of the several CA's I have in the stash (F8 included)

If it isn't modular I'm sure the aftermarket will come to our rescue. :)

Kudos for Airfix for choosing the F.8, as it is best looking meatbox IMO :goodjob:(...)

Another interesting-looking variant is IMO the NF.14... Remember the OOP Aeroclub 1/48th mixed-media/vacuform kit.

Also of importance: please M. Airfix avoid the Zoukei-Mura syndrome. I mean too many open panels and an 'unnecessary' level of internal details. Let this costly aspect from the hobby to the craft/resin industry.

But I will keep dreaming about a Hunter F.4/50/51

I see a Hunter F.Mk.6 tail just behind the Duxford's Meteor F.Mk.8 picture illustrating the Airfix blog http://www.airfix.com/uk-en/news/workbench/5641/

Imagine she was also "Lidarized" (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lidar)...

Airfix 1/48th scale range increases again with RAF jet fighter!

The Gloster Meteor F.8, which is on display at IWM Duxford

For modellers with an interest in classic British jets, we have some spectacular news for you - in 2016 Airfix will be releasing the Gloster Meteor F.8 in 1/48th scale. In this larger scale, the Meteor will look absolutely magnificent and will allow the Airfix development team to incorporate an impressive level of detail into the new kit. The F.8 version of the Meteor was, for many, the ultimate fighter version of this famous British jet and formed the mainstay of Fighter Command throughout most of the 1950s. This was the most heavily produced version of the Meteor and enjoyed excellent export success, as many countries were keen to secure an effective and relatively cheap jet fighter for defence purposes. Let’s take a closer look at how the Meteor project started to take shape.

The NF.14 is certainly interesting-looking with that Pinocchio nose. I do like the long bubble canopy on it. Although the old Matchbox kits are certainly still quite serviceable (I have several, or at least their reboxings), it would be nice to see some new-mould nightfighter Meatboxes. Do you hear me, Mr. Airfix!

Regards,

Jason

Please, please make it 1/48.Or maybe 1/24....if only.!!!!!

If it's going to be 1/24 you want, they've got to chuck in moulds for everything ( wings, nacelles, cockpits, canopies and wheels etc) from a Mk 1 through to give options for every single seat variant & I'll be a happy chap.

Whilst on the subject, Airfix should be congratulated on a 1/48 Meteor- Whatever it's Mark.

Despite it having issues as a jet aircraft, it stands shoulder to shoulder with the Spitfire and Hunter as a major UK aviation export- on that alone, it deserves better than what has been offered to modellers so far in 1/48 or even 1/24 or 1/32 scales.

I agree; the Meteor introduced more air forces to jet aviation than, I think, any other aircraft.

And I'll second the request for some new night fighters, particularly the NF.14.

Peter

I'll miss this long drawn out guessing game and Big Bang announcement effect at the end of each December.

Who can forget the days (or nights subject to timezone) when BM was almost at meltdown with us all refreshing our browsers.

Then the estatic moans of universal joy when kits such as the Beaufighter, Whitley and finally a new Shackelton were all revealed.

It was possibly the one day of the year when I felt like a truly excited 10 year old boy again, although it was comforting to know that as an adult I could actually afford to buy all this stuff!!

The little boy in me is still holding out that a new Venom will be revealed in one final foray of kit announcements for 2016.

Cheers.. Dave.

Luckily I want this kit so I can build the Temora machine, which I think *is* a standard F.8 with new markings!

Bog standard ex RAF machine, I believe it answered to "Winston" in its service days.

Model Update – 1/48th scale Gloster Meteor F.8

We end this latest edition of Workbench with an update on the much anticipated 1/48th scale Gloster Meteor project. From the feedback that we have already received, this model looks like it has really captured the imagination of modellers around the world and looks destined to be an extremely popular addition to the range. You will therefore be pleased to learn that the model is advancing towards release nicely and we have some exclusive images to show you this week.

From the original Meteor F.8 CAD images that we showed you in Workbench edition 3, it was clear that this new model would include impressive levels of detail, to accompany the already classic shape of the Gloster Meteor in this larger scale. The selection of pre-production model parts pictures we have for you this week illustrate just how good a job the Airfix designers have done with this model and will further serve to increase our expectation levels.

With a scheduled release date of April 2016, the 1/48th scale Gloster Meteor F.8 is already proving to be a real hit and will undoubtedly be a future construction project for many Workbench readers. We hope that you will find these latest images of interest.

An FR9 looks a possibility

Indeed! Although I have a spare Classic Airframes PR nose and a U16 conversion set tucked away........I'm getting worried now about how many of these kits I need to get.......and I have a CA F8 nearing completion.........

...I've also started to re-furbish this CA F8 that I built in 2003..........only 12 years ago.....

Be nice if Airfix choose this scheme in their kit.....though as its on one of Hannants 1/72nd scale sheets, there is the possibility of it being up=sized...

There's got to be a good chance they will do an additional 1/48 F.8 sheet based on their 1/72 research. The decal demand based on the Airfix kit is going to be an order of magnitude greater than the demand back when it was either the Classic Airframe kit or Vacformville
