1/72 Revell PBY-5A

I thought I read somewhere about a Revell PBY-5A as a future release in 1/72 scale. Does anybody know if this is a re-release or a new-tool? Would it  be too much to hope for a new-tool with correct nacelles and cowlings to supercede the Academy Catalinas?

Seen under ref.3902 in the Hannants "future release" list

But this news was not confirmed in the recently published Revell 2018 catalog:

And if this happen in 2018 don't hope a new tool. It'll be for sure a repop from the original revell kit (link) or from the Academy one (link).

In the past, Revell offer some kits only in some countries. (F.e. the Hornet with swiss markings, the EC-145 with french markings or the Junkers F-13 with markings from Finland).

So we will see waht is end of the month at Nuremberg Toy fair on the display.

as stated by Der Lingener in the revell 2018 thread :

"the 72nd Catalina is NOT officially listed by Revell Germany and has also NOT been announced during last November´s press conference!
So officially it´s a "NO" - officially!

But trust me: Hannants do have the new items list for the trade and they need to have it in advance to order their stocks ... need to say more?

The OV-10A Bronco is a re-pop of Academy - so who knows what else will be re-released in the near future? maybe a Flying boat? who knows..."

I dont really see the point of these big press releases to launch your entire range then omit some items for a later release, either do a range launch or dont .

Rumour has it that hannants are in big trouble with Revell over this announcement - not supposed to announce until 1st January. German modelling websites not happy as they are usually the first with this news and abided by the rules!

I was afraid it was going to be an Academy rebox or their original -5A reissued, but there's always hope. I wish the manufacturers would just keep quiet until they actually release a kit, as it just causes a commotion and almost always the actual release date is not even close to the announced date. Thank you for the quick reply, HB!

I'm sure this will be prepackaged  Academy  100% .

P.k

That'll suit me just fine - especially if it's at Revell's usual bargain basement prices!:D

Word on the street its the Cousteau Cat.

If so, it's likely to be (a) a PBY-6 (or PB2B-2, I've never been quite sure which) and (b) a re-release of a variation on the old mould. I had one when it was first released; there are still bits and pieces from it in the spares box.

Won't complain about that - where else will you get a 1:72 tall tail Cat?

It's a new tool Cousteau Cat.

If so I doubt they include Cousteau decals - when they rereleased the Calypso some years back they did not mention Cousteau or Calypso because of royalities.

First - if it's PBY-5A it can't be the Cousteau cat.

If it's Cousteau Catalina it must be PBY-6A with tall fin and no nose turret (like it was 40 years ago or so) https://www.scalemates.com/kits/934967-revell-congost-h-576-pby-de-cousteau

Anyway in both cases it can be either old mould Revell (both -5, -5A and  -6A were available), the re-packed Academy (-6A missing in Korean range, so at least one new sprue needed) or the brand new tool. Of course all we'd like the last option mentioned, but reality forces us (and Revell) to the first solution - in few months we'll see.

It's said that hope dies last.

Cheers

Would enough people even remember Cousteau?  I also remember that his son Phillipe was killed in said PBY-6A.  Perhaps Revell could release it with Steve Zissou's Hiller, just to add insult to injury.

The Cousteau P-boat is never going to be made again in the Calypso colors as Jacques son was killed in it on the Taag river.

After that accident they never had permission to release it  as i was told...
