corsaircorp
5th of January and already distracted from the "will no start Something else.... Look.... It's already an Hawker Fury, not Sea fury yet but... There's another one here... Not Sea fury but however... Read my alias one of these 2 ladies will be turned into a Hawker Nimrod.... Did I say USN and FAA ?? More to follow...
corsaircorp
Let's have a look to the instructions !! Here are the Lindberg ones, I don't know if this a Lindberg original or a frogg or Something else... There will be some upgrading to do !! I think that the Fury will be camouflaged since the Nimrod will be silver doped ... Munich crisis... What crisis ?? or so A look at the sprue of the Lindberg one !! And now Airfix... Airfix is cleaner, more modern surely since I never studied the outing of the models.... Here lay the first glitch... Who is wrong who is right ??? I'll take the long ago ordered plans aaaaand it is Hawker Demon's plans Note the wonderfull sink mark, I will have fun for sure !! And unexpectedly the wings are ... Ok for the 2 contenders ... Since I took some picture of the 2 when I was in UK in November, I'll share it too... I don't think that these 2 will be finished in 2018.... Too much distractions.... in fact Have a good modelling time, tomorrow I'm back at my kitchen table bench !! Sincerely. Corsaircorp

corsaircorp
Well, the plan is now badly needed !! Lower wings are not the same at all, once again, who's right ! There are some Airfix niceties.... Ejection pins ! Recessed ones for airfix and proud ones for Lindberg Is it all we need to kill the mojo ?? No surely not !! Moulding flaws can achieve the goal... Look This side look good... Almost.. But this one ... More to come soon??? At least ... Have a pretty good Sunday !! and a nice modelling time !! Sincerely. Col.
I'd say the smooth curves of the silver plastic wingtips in your Lindberg kit are the more accurate... https://goo.gl/images/h9jZFp The Airfix mould has seen too much use since the 70s and there's quite a difference between the plastic found in older boxes compaired to what can be found now Edited January 6, 2018 by Col.

Teuchter
Hi, CC, if you search the site for 'Inpact', the original mould of the Lindbergh, you will find several threads talking about comparisons between the Furies.
corsaircorp
Hello Dears, Now I got this !! Time to restart these birds But I got this too ! Time to start another triple build WiP ??? Sincerely. CC
S5 modeller
Good luck with the lindberg kit, I think you'll need it. Only got one kit from lindberg, but it was a horrible kit, with lots of flash. Mind you it did fit together pretty well. Matt

JosephLalor
I believe that the Airfix Fury, like the SMER Bulldog, was Merit tooling. I'd say Merit did a better job on the Fury than they did on the Bulldog.
corsaircorp
hello dears, Smell like the opening of a thread on Sea furies soon ! Legs and decals, Will make some resin parts now !! Have a nice day ! Sincerely. CC
corsaircorp
well Dears, The verdict is harsh ! And I gulped a lot as I took some measures... Fuselage first ! The Airfix one seem right ! But NO ! The cockpit is not at the right place ! Must move forward for 3mm, but luckily, the lower wing has the right location Now, the Lindberg Merit😜 4mm too short, and the cockpit is by no means better ! But !! there's 2 but !! The wing is not at the right place either !! So the lindberg will be really modified ! May be cut at 2 different places, I'll see ! More to come soon ! corsaircorp
Hello Dears, Sorry, I was too tired yesterday, So, Where were we ? Huh, the wings now ! Wings are quite right for the 2 of her ! See ! Here are airfix ones, Except for the lleading edge wich seem to be metallic, dimensions are good ! Same stand for the Lindberg ! Same problem with the leading edge, supplemented by the shape of the ailerons ... Plus 2 seams to be filled. Also right for the lower wing. And have a look Gentlemen, Here's the reason for the same bad location of the cockpit !! Now on the photo above, the Linberg fuselage seem right in both shape and lenght !! The kits have been drawed and designed from a upper surface plan but without taking care of the projection !! Airfix fare a little better because the lenght is right in dimension but have the same misplaced cockpit !! But now Ladies and gentlemen, the goal of this thread is to have a Fury AND a Nimrod, so let's see ! Fuselages ?? Same issue, Airfix right lenght but misplaced cockpit !! So the same thing can be expected from the Lindberg one !! Biiiingo ! The wings now, and there lie the Devil in the box.... Sailor's bird have bigger feathers !! Both on the upper and lower wings alas ! Here's where I will take an advantage from the "cut in 3 upper wing" from the Lindberg kit, see , Nimrod wing will be plugged ! Card will do the job Then Having the good profile..... That will be pure heavy metal Rock'n roll, Hooops thats rag wings ! But the Nimrod has 2 tanks on the upper wing A little bit less of surface to rag on ?? If I may say !! Then I will be carefull for the struts location.... So, here's the plan !! The Airfix Fury will stay a Fury ! The Lindberg one must be butchered so a Little bit less or more, the Nimrod will come from there ! Now Dears ! That will not be an easy thread, hope to have the usual drift and banters aaaand sorry about that, I cannot stay on an every day basis work... But you already know me ... Is this crazy enough for CC ??? I think that I hold a good one here ! See you soon, Hem No sorry, only this evening, then 3 days off in Germany Ho Please Gentlemen, if you have a party, the nuns are in the shower, beers are in the fridge and don't you forget to shut the door when you leave !! Sincerely. CC

Fastcat
Hi CC, I'd be careful of using those old drawings. Alf Grainger did some more detailed ones of the Nimrod but you'll probably find some more useful stuff here : Linky Thingy John Aero had a lot of input into this thread but there are many other threads if you use the search function on BM. Ex-FAAWAFU
I love these inter-War beauties (& those possibly a little less beauteous - this was not Naval aviation’s sleekest era!). There are nothing like enough good quality modern kits of them. I shall watch both avidly - but particularly the Nimrod. (And why wasn’t the 60s MPA called “Nimrod II”, a la A7 Corsair II, F4 Phantom II & F35 Lightning II)?

Lovely '30s technology. Dave thanks Dave, Looking good, generally, the warpaint plans are accurate, now I will cross check the dimensions I'll buy that Nimrod's plans. First time I saw the Hawker fury, I thought "It's already a Hurricane, the shape is already there ! " Naval aviation in the '30 is fascinating, I did a F3F-2 and I have a F4B-4 on the bench... Must do some Brits now ! I dream of a Blackburn Blackburn and an Avro Bison... at 1/48... Sincerely. CC
corsaircorp
Hello Dears ! I received this book yesterday !! Lord !! it's a good one ! my first Mushroom pub and surely not the last one !! Mitch K
Just spotted this! I built the old Lindberg kit when I was a kid. I would have been about 8, I think, so roughly 1974. It seemed a real corker back then, and for a biplane seemed to build pretty well. Suffice it to say that efforts with Airfix biplanes around the same time went much less well, and put me off for about the next forty years!
