rockpopandchips
So the new year starts with some scratch/ kit bashing building practice, i want to build one of the Revell tugboats into a flying Sci-fi junk boat but that is going to take a lot of building that i need A LOT of practice in. So this a practice project, its a deep space probe/ship/satellite with a hint of retro and Ma.k. influence. Starting point is a yakult bottle. Had a go at using milliput as well, i will be using a lot more of this. Fitted the nose and what will become sensor domes, these will be filled in and shaped with milliput once the resin glue is dry. You can see my box of plastic bit for building into stuff!
rockpopandchips
Made a start on building up the sensor domes using milliput. Still lot to do to them but its start.

Pete in Lincs
I'll be watching too. Nice work so far. I like the tugboat idea too. I presume we're talking Ian McQue style?
Hunter Rose
Nice! Nothing like a bit of scratching, and as a ma.k fan.im drawn to any build involving a yakult bottle! And yeah I love the idea of making your own version of a flying tug, I've seen resin kits on the industria mechanika site that are cool but waaaay out of my budget!

Yeh thats the guy, i really like his art and sculptures, im not sure i can do the subject justice but I'm going to give it go hence the practice. 16 hours ago, Hunter Rose said: I've seen resin kits on the industria mechanika Me to but wow they look amazing there are some good WIP on pinterst that im using as reference for having a go at making one myself. Just on with the sanding and filling thats probably going to take a few days to sort now before adding a few more details. rockpopandchips
So while im waiting fot the filler to dry on the DS Yak-ult i have started my next scratch build. This one is a 1/72 scale mini space tug. Influenced by this totally amazing but of art. Edited January 7, 2018 by rockpopandchips

Hunter Rose
That looks cool! I'd be tempted to do that as a separate little craft too
rockpopandchips
First round of filler and primer done on the 1/72 mini space tug. Happy with my scratch-bash build so far, need to make a start on the under side now. Its even got wing mirrors......
rockpopandchips
Still lots of sanding to do on the DS Yak-ult and the collusion dive has separated from the body so i will need to fix that before adding the rest of the greebles.
Bugle07
Nice work, like the look of the space tug, you thinking of a good few aerials on it? More greebles for the Yak-ult please! Geoff

Pete in Lincs
Nice work so far. Now, if it were mine..... It's a space tug so it needs reactor jets to steer. I'd add random access panels here and there, plus big rivets as per the McQue picture above. And, a tug needs anchor points and/or manipulator arms. (Hope you don't mind the comments). It's a long learning process! Keep them coming.

Cheers Pete and thanks for your comments, totaly agree with them and i think most folk. I will be adding a few panels with PE details. I have not added them yet as last time i did the rust thing with chipping liquids i lost all the PE detail, we will see how it turns out. Big rivets i hadn't thought about but i might see if i can come up with a few, the other things are all great but as this is a mini tug i figured it would just be using a magnetic hook for pulling stuff via the 2 massive jets on the back. I have the idea that the tug would be pulling the DS Yak-ult after re-entery
Pete in Lincs
For the big rivets, get a pack of dress making pins (cheap as), cut just below the head & superglue into small holes. They're metal, easy to do & look like the real thing. Failing that, it can be done with stretched sprue (even cheaper) but it will take a bit of practice.

I used these on a Gundam once and completely forgot about using them again.....anyway this is painted up and im on with the weathering, just a bit of grime and streaks to add i think. Not overly happy with the rusty bits i should have painted it much darker.
Hunter Rose
Nice! Love the blue. Until i read the bit about the rust i actually thought it was a cool faded paint look! I think its like the primer of the ship showing through.
