Spitfire Mk. XIV.c (Academy 1/72)

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone! Today I started this academy kit:

The kit comes with two gray sprues and a transparent one, wich allows you to have the canopy in open and closed position. The plane looks very detailed.

The decals.. I dont really like them, but im not going to spend on some aftermerket decals.

I already started on the chromate green, maybe its not the exact color but I think it made the job, I just mixed humbrol 117 with 130

Don't go there mate, just build & enjoy it. This kit builds nicely out of the box, even though it has some accuracy issues it's a fun build & still looks a lot like a Spitfire XIV. Sometimes I think it pays not to over think these things.

If you look at the lower wing fron the front edge towards you, you will see what I mean, other than that as Steve says its a nice build. There may be other problems but not that shout at me so I am not worried about them.

Hello! I glued the main fuselage with the wings. It was a nice fit except or the upper part of the fuselage, Not sure if I did something wrong but it looked like this:

So I add some tamiya putty to fill the gap.

Here is the result after the sanding, it looks better imho. It looks like a Spitfire now

The next step will be the painting process. I will use humbrol enamels and a brush (the old way).

See you soon!!

I already finished the painting, it's not perfect, but I'm kinda satisfied with it. The underside was painted with humbrol 166, and the upper par with 140 and 116. The yellow edge was painted with 154, but the paint was in a bad state, so I'll have to wait to paint the blade's tip till I get a new one.

You are doing a good job there. The XIV is one of the nicest looking marks I think.

As others have said, it builds nicely but the basic problem is that it is too wide at the cockpit and I think the nose.

Here is mine posed next to the Airfix 19. Some of the errors are noticeable.
