exdraken
hi everybody! happy to join this tank GB! new to AFM, but sticking to 1/48 Sherman M4 early production (welded hull) Tamiya 1/48 that is what I have so far, also order a RB barrel and M2 MG improvement set..... started with the metal hull, gives nice weight (a tank after all, not an airplane!!) but is a bit strange to work with! T(h)anks for all kind of comments, espcially help! I will need it! markings not decided yet..... Ozzy
Nice one Werner, these 1/48 kits are proving very popular. I've not built a 1/48 kit I will have to give one a go.

exdraken
Thanks all guys for your nice welcome! Fiddling around a bit with tracks and rollers, I wonder how one best paints them.... befor assy or after... Kit engineering seems great for the moment Some things a bit strange, like the seemingly open lower hull above the tracks.... -- do I make myself clear at all ? Thanks again, Werner Edited January 4, 2018 by exdraken
Corsairfoxfouruncle
Werner... They're called sponsons, Tamiya has a habit of making the modeler fill those in. Take a look at mine i just used sheet plastic. Once the tracks are on, you wont see much from below. Though you will see the openings through the hatches, if you leave them unfilled. Forvthe wheels and painting its up to you. I painted after install, as i plan on weathering the lower chassis somewhat heavy. So it will cover up any poor spots. Ozzy
Tanks are definitely easier to paint and weather than aircraft.

exdraken
There are side mounted armor plates provided for the side of the sponsons. Do I fit them, or leave them off? Edited January 6, 2018 by exdraken
Bullbasket
27 minutes ago, exdraken said: There are side mounted armor plates provided for the didd of the sponsons. Bullbasket
8 minutes ago, exdraken said: Is there a general rule to this? Most M4's and M4A1's with dry stowage, ie; shells stored around the tank just in racks, would have had applique armour plates welded to the hull sides and the sides of the turret as added protection as they had a tendency to burn when hit. Hence the German nickname for them....Tommy Cookers. Later models had cast in cheek armour on the turrets. Later Shermans were said to have wet stowage. That is to say the shells were stored inside the tank in a mixture of glycol and water to prevent the fires when hit. John. 3
exdraken
thanks a lot! I always like to know a little bit "why" - so many kit instructions do not tell you the truth or omit the important... So I will add them! chain assy: no problems, just a bit filly and time intensive and the same on the other side again.... detail and quality looks excellent! the track assy is hopefully still removabel for painting

Ozzy
Nice work on those tracks, it's annoying when the instructions don't tally with the actual's.
exdraken
scratch built a very basic sponson cover, guess it will do, and received the M3 barrel, as well as the M2 Browning gun directly from RB (in addition to some other stuff )

Revell 66 any good? Cheers, Werner
Hewy
That small paint blooper will easily be covered with some deft weathering, your sherman has gone together great, and looks very impressive
Rumblestripe
Fortunately tanks are rarely without muck on them and their paint was often applied in liberal amounts with less than perfect results. She'll be right mate! Looking good so far, these little Tammy Tanks are nice models aren't they?
