I've several planned BotB themed builds already either a KT, Sherman jumbo or 105 or I've just picked up a dodge weapons carrier.

Already interesting subjects for this bigfoot, could be a brilliant GB

The Ardennes Battlefields

I think I like a lot of people know about the Battle of the Bulge, but only generally from watching a few films and the excellent Band Of Brothers min series. However like a lot of things there is much more to it once start to get under the surface. By late 1944 the front was all but stationary in the 85 mile area of the Ardennes. It was here on the "ghost" front that Hitler would stage his final gamble to halt the Allies push into Germany. In what was a risky plan carefully hoarded reserves of men and equipment would be thrown through the heavily forested Ardennes into weak allied positions with the aim to be at Antwerp within a week. Through almost total secrecy the attack came as a great shock to the allies but in the end they were able to rally their troops, and a combination of this, the weather, and poor German logistics saw this last hurrah defeated; and then the way into Germany was more open than it was before.

This book from Casemate looks at the complete battlefield. It is A4 hardback with 192 pages. It is lavishly printed through out with Black and white contemporary photos, complemented by colour photos of the areas today; and many colour maps of the battles which took place. The authors have looked at all aspect of the battles; the original German plan, the units on all sides, the attacks and counter attacks. The photos also look at the many memorials which litter the towns in the area, and which are still kept in excellent condition to this day.

Conclusion

This is very much a complete look at the Ardennes Battles fields, the photos and maps show how the battle panned out, and the modern photos show in some cases how little things have changed. If you are interested in WWII history then this book is a must. For the military modeller the wealth of contemporary photos give a very good idea of how the vehicles and troops looked at this time.

Highly Recommended.

Anyone recommend a small cheap tank/armour modellers book for the Bulge etc? Also any other movies? Band of Brothers and the film with Robert Shaw the only ones I have seen...

What sort of book are you after, a modelling techniques book or a reference picture book?

if it’s reference pictures you’re after the images of war battle of the bulge book is quite good for a cheap book, not exclusively afv’s but plenty of them in it. Can pick it up for about £7.50 new on eBay.

I’ve got loads of bulge reference books at home, I’ll have a look when I get home and see what else I can recommend.

saints and soldiers film is set during the battle, not really about the battle, but worth a watch.

I’m thinking of a Bastogne type diorama, snow..got, swooping FW190 F-8...got....frosted dark menacing Tiger with red numbers...on the Birthday wish list, Bf 109 top cover for the 190....readily available as is my p51 tank buster, research to be done to select the marking for all a/c, books in or inbound, kubwell wagon, comes in 190 kit....does anyone know what I’m looking for to get a motorbike model from this period?

Thanks!

Starting to feel the chill in the air and leaves on the turn up here, I like to build to themes that match the weather so I’m going to begin my plans for this in the hope it squeezes through....

Are we looking for just 5 recruits to push this through to the vote? Armour, aircraft, motorbikes, volksgrenadiers, American airborne figures, woods, snow, barbed wire fences, tigers, panzers, p47, p51, 190, 109, endless opportunities in this one

What Valkyrie said. Something for just about everyone in this GB, including huge historical significance as far as WW2 history is concerned, & don't forget Operation Boden[platte, the Luftwaffe attack on allied airfields on new years day 1945, the very much ill conceived last throw of the dice for the Luftwaffe, after which they were largely a spent force , was part of Unternehmen Wacht am Rhein, the German name for what came to be called "The Battle of the Bulge"

I believe so, 5 more still needed.

Blimey, that’s a hell of a diorama, what scale you planning on building it in, 72nd? Depending on the scale there’s a few options for German motorbikes.

Thanks Bigfoot. It would need to be 1/72 as I’ve just a small work and display area, any German motorbike ideas would be great thanks! Hoping this gets through

Zvezda do a German motorcycle with side car and Italeri do a motorcycle kit as well, both in 1/72. Not sure if the Italeri is aimed at DAK but sure it could be easily used.

I’m hoping this one gets through, just need a few more people!

If this doesn't make it for 2019, I suggest re-naming and re-describing this something like End of Reich GB, starting from Ardennes in December -44 and ending in Berlin, April -45. That would bring our own Britmodeller Red Army Choir members supporting this with their Katyushas,  maintain all the Bastogne nuts and Peiper fanboys, and mean only a few months of delay. I'm sure Enzo would give this a proper slot in the 2020 GB Calendar, sneaking two weeks in 2019. Just my :2c:. V-P

Plus one from me too, I've just looked at the 2019 GB calendar & wondered how to get this one into 2020, VP has cracked it to my mind. Apologies to Blitz23 for not giving this more support, 2018 has turned into a stinker for me, not a single build since finishing one off in January & no GBs attempted. :(  Hopefully by 2020, I can be back on track & taking part in an End of Reich GB. :)
