Ka-Efka Posted October 9, 2018 Share Posted October 9, 2018 Very good points / observations delide. I'll keep that in mind when starting mine. Have the Bobcat Brewer E, so some issues do not apply. I meant the actual nose is more conical shaped, but if you can't see that or don't mind it's of course fine. I will probaby reshape it a bit to make it look better to me, but if I can pay to save the time it would be great for me. He was in the right place in the right time (and had the money also, which is also important in this case)! The Yak’s in his collection are from the private in-house museum of the Yakovlev OKB. They were either in the in-house museum or at a storage place (under roof) kept in perfect condition! After closing the OKB the exhibits went to Zadorozhnij museum (most anyway). Apart from aircraft (well aircraft are NOT the main interest of Zadorozhnij, imagine what the museum would look like if aviation was his love!!! ) he has a fascinating collection of cars and bikes including pieces which even BMW does not have!!! The latest addition to the collection is a Me-109G2 retrieved from a lake bed in fantastic condition (it made an emergency landing on the ice of the lake and was damaged only by bullets, sunk in the spring)! It had winter white “snakes” sprayed on the wings. It will undergo restauration. The Zadorozhnij museum is a MUST visit if anyone is in Moscow! I have neither kit - it just isn't my scale. I've fought the Amodel Yak-28P into submission...... .... and have all the Amodel Yak-25/27/28 family in the stash for when I feel brave enough to tackle them. Gabor, the Yak-28P - and a few other Yak types were at Khodynka many years ago - before Yakovlev 'retrieved' them. We also visited the small museum at the Yakovlev OKB - just off Leningradski Prospekt - and saw some of the exhibits that are now at Zadorozhnii. We also saw - throught the dirty windows and hidden in the grass - the yellow-primered fuselage of a two-seat Yak-141 - you could just make out what it was. On one of the visits I have seen the "museum workers" cutting up and selling for metal, loading on a truck aircraft pieces. They were not too happy of me taking photos. There was a warehouse full of Yak's in storage. Few were flying some years ago like that early jet trainer competing against the L-29 and Iskra (don't remember the type, I was more interested in the unique ejection seat it had ) retrieved from the same warehouse and made flight worthy. I'm also fortunate enough to have two Yak-28s 'on the doorstep' (well, a couple of hours drive away anyway), as excellent references !. The Tartu Aviation Museum here in Estonia has a superbly restored example of the Yak-28PP although I am not sure about the colour scheme, which is overall 'mustard' yellow. I believe the aircraft was gifted to the museum by Ukraine who have supplied several others including a MiG-23. The aircraft sports Soviet markings and enjoys the benefits of being housed in a rather smart sun shelter (like the majority of other exhibits), which protects them from the ravages of the Estonian weather both in the Winter and Summer. This last weekend I finally managed to visit the other museum 'down the road' in Riga in neighbouring Latvia. The museum is a treasure trove of former Soviet types with some quite rare exhibits (The nose section of a Su-27 Flanker prototype known as the T-10 (apparently - Ken, help us out here !) and the MiG-29UB was described to me by the guide as Prototype No.2. Judging by some of the design features it is certainly not a production version of the Fulcrum). The museum also has a Yak-28R which, like one of the other co-respondents, is one of my favourite variants of the enigmatic Yak-28. Unfortunately all of the exhibits are open to the elements and many are now in a poor state of repair. In an effort to protect the cockpits, a large number including the Yak-28 have covers over the canopies. On the plus side, the weather was excellent and the very hospitable museum curator allowed me to conduct a number of walkarounds - I took almost 700 photos in the space of 2+ hours which must be a new record for me !. Some interesting 'lumps and bumps' on the nose of the Yak-28R One of the major differences I noticed was the presence of these two apertures on the port side engine pod.
