Vampire T.11

Recommended Posts

Hi folks,

It's been a while what with working away from home a lot, but I've had the past week off for Christmas and managed to get back to the bench, and took 11 hours to produce this. It's Airfix's offering, and is a very nice kit, going together with the minimum of fuss. I know the real version isn't as shiny as this, but I wanted to try out the Xtreme Metal Aluminium. I did it as a quick build just to get my hand back in, but it's come out ok. Tiny though - I don't usually build 1/72, and now I remember why...

It was shiny silver painted from the factory. Seems to oxidize really fast in the atmosphere . When I got up close and personal to a Vampire I couldn't believe that the body/cockpit is  made of plywood .... 500mph in a wooden tube? Not something I'd want to do!

Pretty Vampire...

Question...were any of these flying with (any) NATO forces during the 1960s?

Apparently so...
