Scammell Pioneers in civvies.

Although I'm primarily an aircraft builder, I've always had a soft spot for the Scammell Pioneer. I built the Airfix 1:76 one as a kid, and always had a yen to do another. Wind the clock forward far too many years, and it's now available in 1:35, from no less than two different manufacturers. What can a poor boy do? There is now an SV2S on its way to me from the Big H, and I'm looking for something different to do with it.

It seems that many Pioneers, and the SV2S in particular, found their way into the hands of various showmen. A quick search on t'interweb brings up some tasty schemes, but unfortunately there's usually only a single shot, or maybe two, of most of them, and not all are in colour. I'd like a bit more detail, particularly if I've got to draw up a set of markings for the model. Can anyone please point me in the direction of a more specialised source of information, be it on the web or in steam-powered hard copy?

Admiral Sah ! :bye:

I'm in the same boat, but I've purchased the IBG R100 version to do a civilian one, but there's even less piccies of them. Think I'll do it in something like a Heavy equipment yellowish colour.

Going back into the dark recesses of my memory,(usually a dangerous endeavor), I seem to recall a few years back that one of the die-cast manufacturers did a pioneer, i think it was like a blue & red colour. I think even Oxford do some too.

Thanks, Steve. If I find anything, I'll let you know.

The showmen's engines have some great schemes, in keeping with those on the (even older) steam traction engines used in the same theatre. I'm also trying to track down a decent scheme for the Entex Garrett, which is crying to be done in something other than the kit scheme!

Admirable Admiral,

There is a National Fairground Archive attached to Sheffield University in Pommieland. Go here: https://www.sheffield.ac.uk/nfca

Then go to Collections and select by subject...for example for Transport go here: https://www.sheffield.ac.uk/nfca/collections/subject/transport

That will keep you amused and inspired for a while...and you can always contact them and ask for stuff specific to the Scammell...

There also seems to be a few books around on the general subject...I will send you a list otb...
