The Lightningboy production line comes to an end for 2017

Recommended Posts

I think I'll have to change my username to NotsoLightningboy just 9 builds completed for me this year.

Four of them have been on the production line for a lot longer than one year, three of those - the Whirlwinds have gone to a very happy customer!

Starting in order of when they rolled off the production line with;

A start of a long running theme as I have become an avid fan of Tiger Meet schemes. This theme will last a few years with me!

The three Westland Whirlwinds completed as a commission build for a friend. Two of them will be mounted on a brass stand in flying position. Out of all the kits I have ever built I found these the most tricky to build. They really were reluctant to go together, but old percy helped me carry on with this 'till the bitter end. They really were a labor of love.

Back to stripey things that fly! All inspired from a few Mark Attrill books I have collected over the past few years and my airshow trips. It seems that every book that's about the Tiger meets are written and compiled by him.

And finally this is where I only recently started using an airbrush!

Purchased the Meng 1/72 Fiat G-91 kit a while back, built it, primed it, then it sat at the back of the production line. Then I found the Revell 1/72 G-91 with Tiger Stripes! So I thought I would apply the scheme to the Meng kit. What on earth went wrong when they designed the sheet! The weirdest decal sheet I have ever found. It had what must be markings for a 1/144 scale model and the supposed 1/72 stripes were underscale for the kit which incidentally is just as good as the Revell kit and scales exactly the same! Luckily everything other than the black stripes fitted perfectly.

Thanks for looking and I also make no apologies for not starting build threads! I only have so much time to actually build kits in between life and work! Yes yes yes excuses excuses I know I should contribute more to Britmodeller! It's so much more fun looking at other peoples finished work instead, that's what Britmodeller is for....Isn't it?

Cheers and have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to all!

Martin

Outstanding. I love your G.91. They used to fly up our valley many years ago, they’d travel along the coast of the Algarve, then 90 degree turn north at Carvoeiro and buzz our house as they straightened up. Fond memories.

Good work there Martin. Stuff you don't normally see. That Beaufort was worth the effort.

Cheers old friend it certainly was, and couldn't be going to a better customer. So I will have to part with it shortly.
