PAS Models 757-200 Air Holland 1:144

Recommended Posts

My latest build is the 757-200 from PAS models (Russia), with decals from DACO, the Coroguard from Flying Colors and the windscreen and window decals from Authentic Airliners. I had fun building this model, but there were two problems. One was that I forgot the balance weight near the top of the fuselage, after I already glued and even puttied the two halves together. As such I had to cut open the model to add the weight to prevent it becoming a tail sitter (on the plus side, it did give me experience for possible future conversion projects). The second one was the decals. As said, I used the decals from DACO (normally they are very good), but the fit was terrible (most likely because it is designed for the terrible Minicraft kit) and I botched them up. Luckily TheFlyingDutchman (he can also be found on the Airlinercafe site) had a spare that I could use. Still, I had a lot of trouble with it, but in the end it turned out OK.

As this is a resin kit, most will want to compare it to the Authentic Airliner offering. I haven’t build an AA 757 myself (yet), but in the far future I may make an Martinair one (I have the decals already). From what I can tell though, the PAS 757 is actually pretty good and accurate. The fit of the fuselage and wings isn’t too great and if I have to nitpick the leading edges of the wings are a bit thick and the engine pylon is a bit too short, but other than that it’s a very fine resin kit. Much cheaper that the AA one, although the shipping costs from the PAS website have increased recently. If you manage to spread out the shipping costs by buying various kits, you have a very good alternative to the AA 757.

my next build is going to be the BAE Jetstream 41 from Welsh. I already started building it. I will probably make a build thread here at BM as well, as it’s a British build Aircraft and that’s appropriate I suppose :P

Anyway, below are the pictures.

That's beautiful, all the right shapes seem to be there. Might have to look into one of these as opposed to the rather poor Minicraft kit languishing in my loft.

Did it come with the RB211's or are these aftermarket?

Again a lovely piece of modelling.

Thanks guys! Much appreciated!

Yeah, I miss that livery too, as the one from Martinair and Trasavia. Used to be such a nice contrast, Red (Martinair), Blue (KLM), Green (Transavia) and Orange (as well as blue) from Air Holland. Now it's mostly just KLM (but one of the nicest liveries out there admittedly)

They came with the kit. There are in fact two versions of the kit. One with the Rolls-Royce and one with the Pratt & Wittney ones

Hi Martijn, that's a real beauty and it doesn't show any sign of the problems you had.  I love PAS and RusAir kits and it's great to see one so well built and finished. :goodjob:

You mention the Authentic Airliners 757.  By coincidence I built one recently with the intention of finishing it in Martinair livery.  It was a fairly easy build but after it was painted and ready for the decals the paint started coming off below the cockpit.  My guess is the resin wasn't properly cured.  I'm not sure what I'm going to do with it because if the fault is with the resin repainting it won't fix anything.  At the moment it's sitting on top of a bookcase out of sight and out of mind but I'll have to decide its fate sooner or later.  I've obviously been unlucky but it just goes to show that even premium products aren't immune to basic problems.

Hi Martijn

This is an absolutely Superb job...

We rarely can see jetliners (and even more so B757s) in model form and you more than did them justice with this model.

Good lighting, subtle weathering, I easily might have taken first 2 photos for photos of an actual machine..

Plus your mini airport is fantasctic. It must be huge!

Extra great job here - Congratulations.

You've made a great job of that. It's a really striking colour scheme. Martijn, I have to ask, where do you store your airport?

The Apron is 100 cm by 100 cm. The runway is a bit smaller at 80 cm by 80 cm.

As to where I store everything, the whole attic is basically my modeling room and I display the finished models here as well (The mrs. is fine with my hobby, as long as nothing leaves that room haha :p). It's pretty large, so plenty of space to store everything, although I will run out of room eventually ;).
